uninstall/reinstall help

Unread postby cnw1970 » Wed Apr 22, 2015 1:09 pm

Hey guys, I've been having problems with TS2015 crashing when I'm in editor mode, specifically when I'm painting ground textures. I've searched several times for the PONtracks.bin files that I've read so much about, but have found nothing. I upgraded my graphics card to a radeon HD 7800, while it has made the sim run much smoother still did not fix the railworks.exe has stopped working msg.. I've validated my files dozens of times still no fix.
I think my only other option might be to do a reinstall. Since I have hundreds of files and upgrades from 3rd party creators installed, I've avoided the reinstall. My original CD is TS2012 and have just gotten the automatic upgrades since then. Can anyone walk me through the whole process? I have a route that I'm working on and don't want to lose anything.
My system is an HP Pavillion with a 1TB AMD 6 core processor, 6GB hard drive and a Radeon HD 7800 graphics card. I'm at my wits end. !*hp*!

Search the railworks folder and it should find the PONtrack.bin file I moved mine to my desktop and I haven't had any problems since I'm not sure which folder it was in.

I've searched the railworks file and the whole computer for the PONtrack.bin file(s) and have come up with nothing. I use windows explorer to search, is there another way?

Hate to tell you but me and several other people I know crash in edit mode, but I only crash when painting. The paint brush has a memory leak, when you get to 0 free memory it writes a dump file of 0k and you crash. I have reported this to DTG.

That stinks!!!! It never happened on any other versions, just when it upgraded to TS2015. Thanks for the heads up!

Are you still having this issue?? I am, and have contacted DTG several times regarding this but they have not offered a fix yet. Getting very frustrated!!!

I hate to go against my leader here but tonight while painting on the route my free memory went down to zero and it just kept on going. I hit the F2 key every couple of minutes but continued on for 45 minutes or so with no crash. Hit the F2 key then saved successfully. As soon as I saved the free memory started cranking up. I have no idea what's going on but I still think it's some obscure setting.

I guess I'll just have to hit F2 often. I wish they would figure this out.

I am reading some older files and came to the topic of "free memory" in topic Uninstall/Reinstall.
Question to buzz456 re his answer on June 2 : what is a Resource Monitor and where can I find that?

Ctrl-Shift-Esc opens the task manager directly.

Not on my computer. I'm on Win7 pro and it just cycles across the programs that are shown on the lower tool bar.

Weird. I have the same version.
Perhaps you have changed the default hotkeys.
