I found train derailment on Google maps. When it had happened?

Progress continues, mainly the completion of two of the most iconic landmarks of Mojave - Mike's Roadhouse Cafe and the Mojave Chamber of Commerce (ex-SP) caboose.

End of an era, as both are now gone. Mike passed away a few years ago, and the new owners of the property demanded that the city get the caboose out of the parking lot. They did so sometime last year and placed it a block away in an area across from the Mojave Bank. The lot will eventually will become a city and cultural park.

I don't know what will become of Mike's old building though. The city is currently undergoing a major facelift of all the remaining shops along Sierra Hwy, and the old structure may or may not be raised. Also, the owners of Gardner Realty have commissioned a mural to be painted by local artist Keith Quirk on the south wall near where the old caboose once stood (full story):

The image was taken last summer, so I suspect it's been completed by now. :D

Very impressive attention to detail. Did you make the Ford Super Duty pickup parked outside the laundromat?

Yes. I also have a Dodge, but I haven't started on the textures. Not much in the way of variety, but if I made all Fords, Chevys, etc., I would be here forever. !**duh*!!

Beautiful work on the buildings. Looking forward to running this route.

I drove through this area a few days ago on my way to Fresno from Las Vegas for a family event while on vacation, I must say that the Tehachapi Mountains are one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. After driving across the desolation that is the Mojave desert (there's seriously NOTHING between Barstow and Mojave) I was absolutely stunned. On our way back we actually stayed in the town of Tehachapi because it was the only option other than staying in Bakersfield or driving all the way in one shot, there's a really nice Fairfield Inn there, about 10 minutes up the highway from the Loop. Real trains don't interest me as much as they once did (I stick to simming, watching real trains is boring) but it was very very cool and I'm really looking forward to this route!

My parents are actually thinking about retiring to Tehachapi in a few years now. ha!

Next time you're in Tehachapi find the bakery just to the left of the old depot. Worlds best apple pie! !*drool*!

The Apple Shed? It's in there, but I haven't finished the textures yet. :)

I'm not sure I'll be through Tehachapi again for a while but I'll try to keep that in mind if I ever do. Maybe if I someday visit Sequoia National Park.
