FSX-SE offline

Unread postby render2017 » Mon Feb 02, 2015 1:27 am

It seems that I cannot run FSX-SE with STEAM offline, is that correct?

It seems strange as TrainSimulator 2015 can run offline.

Anyone know how to get that to work?

Thanks for any assistance offered.

Don't know for sure I never play offline. You would think it would as every other game on steam does. You might want to try posting in the Steam FSX SE forum, or searching it. Notmuch but whining and complaining like any other steamforum, but you may find something about or start a new post.

It is correct. DTG have been quoted on other forums, including Simviation and the Steam Community, that they know about this and it will be corrected at some time in the future.

My railway photos are back - you can access them from this thread viewtopic.php?f=24&t=21667a . Lots of UK steam and early diesels from the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Thanks, I guess I will just have to be patient. How patient is another matter !

I must add I also tried P3D and it has it's place also, but the limitations about who can legally use it concern me. However from what I have seen from DTG there is not going to be much (if any) development of FSX-SE as they are concentrating on their new flight sim. Bit Sad when so many simmers have invested heaps in FSX which has just about reached as far as it can go..

Are you saying DTG is making a new flight simulator??? Where is this info at? P3D also has me concerned about it's different packages and who can use them. Fortunately I spend too much time with trains and am in no hurry for P3D.

I read a report with an interview of DTG head of the FSX project stating they intend to fix minor bugs and some bugs introduced with the STEAM implementation, but apart from that DLC marketing will be the main effort. It was on AVSIM forum I think, or flightsim.com forum. They are the two I mainly browse. DTG do not want to diffuse work being done on the NEW flight sim they are working on (which it seems may be based on the UE4 engine). They are using FSX-SE as a learning exercise to help with the new sim development.

Sadly, I cannot find the report now.

Hope that helps. It makes sense to me as 32bit software has reached it's limit well and truly with Prepar3d looking at going 64 bit sometime in the not too distant future, and x-plane now on STEAM as well and already 64 bit. Many of the FSX payware people have already added x-plane as another option on their products, and I even read that the Active Sky people are working on an x-plane version as the dynamic weather in x-plane is still dismal compared to Active Sky. I believe the Payware on x-plane has tripled in the last few months and is expected to continue to be a growing trend. STEAM has been a success for them, but still cannot be run off-line, just like FSX-SE cannot either.

I too am concerned about the EULA of Prepar3d and if DTG make an issue of it back to Microsoft they may have to back peddle on what they do now which is not noticing the obvious numbers who do not really comply with the rules of who can use it.

FSX-SE is a bit more stable than FSX, Prepar3d much more stable than either FSX or FSX-SE and can support most of the addons from FSX. X-Plane in visual quality and flight performance is significantly superior to the 32bit sims apart from the weather which is not as good. X-Plane SDK does not yet provide full access to the X-Plane weather parameters to allow the likes of Active Sky and OPUSfsi to work yet. Also other add-ons are still limited and there is no compatibility for those with significant investment in FSX/P3D add-ons. That is beginning to change quite rapidly, so I believe it is the flight sim to watch in my opinion. However it is somewhat more demanding on pilots as it is closer to the real thing. It is less a game and more a genuine simulator. P3d is also heading in that direction.

My view.

I found one of the reports that pits the nail in the development coffin read below:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/314160/discussions/1/611696927917689040/#p2
I quote:
Microsoft remains the developer of FSX and is solely responsible for implementation of any features or content. Meanwhile, Dovetail Games is acting as a publisher for Microsoft and is only licenced to modify the simulator in order to make it Steam compatible. Although we have optimised FSX: Steam Edition for use on Steam, in accordance with our licencing agreement with Microsoft we are not at liberty to make significant functionality changes to the simulator.

We know that the SDK is highly important to the FSX developer community and that the current situation regarding its use with FSX: Steam Edition has not been made clear. Implementation of the SDK currently falls outside of our agreement with Microsoft and therefore we have brought your enquiry to their attention so that we can best provide you with the information that you require. This has meant that we have been unable to address your enquiry as quickly as we would like. We are sorry for any frustration this may have caused.

Microsoft has now issued us with clarification on this matter. FSX: Steam Edition does not include a developer SDK and the focus for this release is to provide players with a stable standalone simulator which utilises the advantages of the Steam platform. If you wish to use the SDK it remains available in the boxed edition of FSX and all functionality will continue to work as it did prior to the release of FSX: Steam Edition. There are no plans to introduce a SDK to the Steam edition at this time."

---

This is quite a serious development (no pun intended) and it seems we have been mis-sold the product. Basically, those wishing to partake in the developer community (or even tweak a few items for our own requirements) will be unable to do so unless they already own the original boxed version.
