DTG vs eyein12 locomotives

Unread postby OpenRailer90 » Tue Dec 23, 2014 1:02 pm

I'm curious how the DTG and eyein12 SD80MAC and Dash-8's stack up against each other.

Carefully. Stack too many and the whole thing will fall over.
Cheers!

Ian has said he has a couple of patches to do which I'm sure he'll do shortly but I'll try to write something up tonight.

I will say up front that this is the best sound pack since Krellnut did his SD70 and ES44 stuff way back.

And to think I spent almost a cumulative 48 hours on it in total aside from the recording process.

Here's a couple of pictures. To my non-nit-picking eye both exteriors are pretty nice. I like the looks of the trucks on the Eyein12 model the way they are textured and the rotating axles stand out a lot more on that model. Like I said earlier Ian has got a couple of patches coming soon to fix some light issues and Dejoh pointed out the head out view seems a bit useless on Ian's locomotive. I too use this so would at least like to see it on the engineer's side. Now to the big difference.
The sound pack is just like night and day. Great horns (two different ones one each on the NS and UP) and just awesome engine sounds. Deep bass unlike almost anything that has been done along with a great rendition of the turbo sounds as well as some great flange sounds. All in all very immersive. I give the sound pack a solid A. This whole locomotive will get a solid A when the patches are done and it is a keeper right now.

Not to knock the wind out of your sails Woody, but you used two of my sound files,(would have been nice if you would have let me know you were using them) and after I fixed the sound drop out, now the full throttle is also my sound file.

I compiled it with as many of my sounds as possible, and filled in a blank with one of Wallys excellent recordings.

Just a "show of hands" would you prefer me to take out the distance lights? the LOD lights drown out the ditch lights. I like the effect of the lights from a distance since there's no good ability to see them from a far outside of this mod. But I had some people say they can do without it. I would leave the dimlight the way it is though since it doesn't interfere with anything.

I also like the lights the way there are.

I'll add that I'm generally more impressed with this loco than the DTG version (although once the community - created fixes are applied I enjoy the DTG version too).

Looking forward to the patched version to resolve the noted issues.

I would prefer flashing ditch lights over that, unless it is possible to have both. If not, my vote would be to have flashing ditch lights.
