How do I you enable automobiles to stop at grade crossings? This is something I've been toying with for a while.

Make sure your using one that can do that and then set it up correctly. I use SMM Digital crossings and he has an extensive help file to go with them. They are now I believe part of the RCAP package. You also have to make sure your traffic will do that. I use scaleroads and its traffic which is a seperate entity. It is not easy to do and can get frustrating at times. When you get it though it is worth it.

also be sure the sensors for the roads (not tracks) are facing the tracks and the tips are behind the gate so the car stops before the gate not through it

If you have a rural crossing where you want lights and no gate, just shove the gate part under ground far enough it won't show when they go "up".
