Cabview problem

Unread postby SEVENDUSTALEIN » Wed Jun 11, 2014 1:13 pm

I downloaded Michael (bobbel66) Zimmer UP and SP dash 9 set. And the inside cab view, looking out the window is messed up.
I also did followed the read me page, i could have made a mistake, help if you can.
All i can see out the window is a reflection of the inside, like this

That's exactly what happens when a model with rain effects on the windows is exported from 3DCrafter, then built and exported from the Asset Editor - 3DC doesn't put in the correct material name for the rain effect. It has to be "weatherglass_n", where n is a number, but 3DC puts in "materialnn" instead. I use 3DC, but after doing the rain effects, I have to use a hex editor (HxD) to edit the cabview model geopcdx file (in the Asset folder) and change the offending material name to the correct one. If I don't do that, the view out of the cab windows is exactly as you have shown - a strange mirror effect. So it looks as if there's a problem in the material names in Michael's cabview model.

It's odd, because if the problem is what I suspect, i.e. a faulty material name in the cabview geometry file, then it's not a problem of any repainting - I'd need to use HxD to look into the geometry file and see what's going on. I don't think I've got a Dash9. Which base model is it?

Ah, then it must be a problem with the repaint. I'll have a look and see if, perhaps, the repaint includes the textures for the window glass - maybe they don't fit with the TSX weather requirements.

OK, I had a look, and I just realised that if the repaint is that old, it pre-dates the changes that were made to add rain effects. That probably means the new model has a modified texture for newly added faces that are painted with the weatherglass material. As I don't have the Dash9, I can't look to see which texture file it is.

Lots of old models used to do that before they were upgraded.

Is there any way for someone to repair or make a new Union Pacific and Southern Pacific Dash 9 repaints? Cause with steam, you can only buy Bnsf,Cn,Ns Dash9 set.

Alias to the cab in the newer models if that makes any sense to you.

I would imagine its nothing more than adding the Wiper Pairs section to the blueprint and copying the new window textures over.

Yep, just tried it and it works fine
