RW&A route wont install

Unread postby WesternPacificFan13 » Sun Jun 01, 2014 7:17 pm

My father bought the RW&A route and fowarded the download link to me. I tried many times to install the route using the Package manager. None of times it worked.

Hi mate...

Not wanting to tell you how to suck eggs, but just want to try and find out what process you are trying. The route is non-dependency, ie everything that the route needs is included.

From the file downloaded (which should be about 330 meg) open with win zip, or 7 zip or win rar (one of the file compression / decompression utilities) (I personally use 7zip, You can extract all of the files or just the route rwp

Using the RW utilities, open the application, click the package manager tab and check refresh. Once that has refreshed, click on the install button and navigate to where you have the uncompressed rwp file sitting and away it should go. Should be fine from there.

The guys did a great job on this one and I havent heard of any other issues - so, check your original download size (it may be corrupted) and dont forget to uncompress.

Hope this is of some help...

!*cheers*!

The process I am using is, well, first of all the download is only the rwp file and whats it. No Win Rar nothing just the rwp. I am pasting the rwp to a file I made called downloads in my railworks folder. From there I open utilities, package manager, refreshed and an error pops up when I try to install the file to the package manager the error says, Unhandled exeption has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immedietly. Cannot find central directory. !*don-know!* !*hp*!

Well the problem lies in either the package manager or the downloaded package.
Test both:

1- Try firing up the package manager and installing a different package. If it works, then:
2- Download the R&WA route package again and retry the installation.

If that doesn't work, then:
3 - Download and install the free 7zip utility from the web. This can open rwp packages (they are a kind of zip files).
Open the rwp archive in 7zip, select the Assets, Content and Manuals folders and extract them to your Railworks folder.

If you can't get the previous to work, here's an alternative way. "The manual installtion" but it's actually very easy and intuitive.

1. Clear out the folders/files, if any, that you have already installed (to avoid complications)

2. Copy the RWP file to your desktop. Keep the original somehwere else, safe

3. Double click on the RWP file. It will open in a new window showing the main folder structure - Assets, Content, Manuals (if this doesn't happen then your problem is with the RWP file, or your unzipping software)

4.Highlight these folders and Cut & Paste the folders (one at a time or all together) directly into your main Railworks folder
(depends on your setup, but default would be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Railworks). Don't try to work out which sub-folders things should go into, just copy Assets/Content/Manuals directly into the . . \Railworks folder

5. When prompted, confirm "yes" to merge folders and to overwrite files (though there shouldn't be overwriting of files unless you've left remains of the previous attempt around)

6. When complete, your whole RW&A Lakeside route should be in place. You can delete the RWP file from your Desktop (assuming you have the original stored somewhere safe)

7. Don't forget the additional freeware available -
see the bottom of http://railworksamerica.com/index.php/h ... side-route. More stuff was added June 1.

Any RWP file can be renamed to ZIP and you can extract them manually to the correct folders.

If you downloaded the route from that link, it had to be a .zip file (file folder with a zipper along one edge) So unless you "un-zip" it with 7zip or Win zip, Package Manager will give an error.

Another tip for you. You don't need to press "Refresh" when you use the Package Manager to install a .rwp (in fact I never do that, because it ends up taking a long time)

I started off with a zip until 25 people ask me what to do with it so I made it just an RWP. Then added "How to install a RWP" to the Route's web page. I cut out the unzippingstep to make it easier. *!rolleyes!*

Then download it again and compare file sizes.

Are you able to successfully open *other* rwp files? If not, then the problem is your unzip program.

If you can successfully open other rwp files - and given that others (including myself) don't seem to have a problem with this one - then you need to download the program again. Have you done that?
