Workshop Scenarios no longer Visible in TS2014

Unread postby MontanaRails » Sun Mar 23, 2014 9:20 am

Unfortunately, I haven't had much time at all to develop anymore (my route or my repaints), so I've just been occasionally lurking and running workshop scenarios when I have time. But, I've run into a very odd problem, seemingly unprovoked.

A few days ago, I was running a newer scenario from Elphaba (Donner Detour - GWD034). I had to save my progress and return to it later. Last night, I resumed the scenario, and all seemed completely normal.

This morning I realized that none of the 20 or so most recently added workshop scenarios are no longer available in my in-game menu. I've never seen something like this before. It's possible they were missing yesterday too - I didnt check. Furthermore, any workshop scenario that I've begun is still available through the standard scenarios, but not the Collection/Workshops menu. *!question!*

After a futile google search on this problem, these are the things I tried:
-Clear game blueprints cache
-Unsubscribe/resubscribe to the missing items
-Delete contents of railworks/Temp folder
-Verify integrity of game files

So far, nothing has helped.

Any ideas? Is there a corrupt database somewhere?

You think maybe the authors might have removed them from the workshop for an unknown reason?

Morning Bob,

Actually, I wondered about that - but they all seem to be still be available.

TS2014 is only listing the first 50 scenarios (did they put a cap on how many will show up?) - and I'm subscribed to 74 according to steam.

Hmmm, now that I am thinking a little, Skyrim has mods that get checked each time you start up the game. Last week several people were complaining that it only displays 50 mods and I also noticed it as well since I have over 80 mods in it. It appears that Steam has cut down our work shop levels and only allows 50 mods/addons from the work shop to be active. Looks like they may have done it to TS also.

Very interesting. That would explain why a verify and other local change don't seem to fix the problem. I'm not sure why I haven't found any other complaints about this specific to TS2014 though - surely I'm not the only one with more than 50 workshop scenarios.

Yes, Team-Speak has been acting very wonkey lately. I play Arma3 a lot, its causing trouble with our radio speak mod. !*don-know!*
On the same subject, I lost 5-6 Workshop scenarios the other day. I did not delete them. Up in smoke?

I think we can rule out Windows Updates, too. The last set of OS updates I got was on the 11th, and it was working fine after that. I haven't updated flash or any other required platforms within the last week either.

EDIT: Looks like Bob is right - it might be a global problem (or new "feature" - who knows). http://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/dis ... portuguese

I found the offending file/database - it is in Steam/userdata/xxxxxxxx(an 8 digit number here)/ugc

I believe these files define the workshop downloads. I have a file named "xxxxx_subscriptions.vdf" - and it only lists 50 items. If I delete or remove these files and launch TS2014, Steam rebuilds them, but doesn't fix the 50 count limit.

Also in this folder, the file named "publishedfiledetails.vdf" seems to list every subscribed item.

Short of using this file to try to manually rebuild the _subscriptions.vdf, I think we're stuck with this issue until Steam decides to fix this, or, we will only be able to have a maximum of 50 workshop items at one time.

It is all very confusing because of lack of authorative information on the subject/problem from Steam itself. People are guessing and messing all over the fora.

I can understand Steam tries to protect or relieve its servers from cybercrime or user overload but communication about any limits placed on paying customers is essential.

Given the folders named by the poster above I've found out I have about 200 subscriptions. Over the last few days I have subscribed to a few dozen more items, and didn't notice the usual download window and long pause when Railworks' Collection Workshop window is opened.

I did notice that the items I subscribed to today are cached in zip files inside the xxxxxx\ugc\referenced folder by rout_uuid and scnr_uuid from the Steam workshop.
When are these files going to be installed automatically?

On a side note, having a lot of scenarios means the "Updating Scenario Database ..." phase during start up can take some time.

Best to wait a while and see if Steam solves this problem in a couple of days.

I have found that if you download the workshop scenarios while TS2014 is running(from Collection/workshop) that they are added right to your existing scenarios. Once there, they are yours. If you download them directly from steam with TS2014 off then in order to run them you have to go to the workshop list which now seems to be limited to 50. I have over 400 scenarios and they are all listed in my scenario groups. I never have to go to the workshop list to run them.

I can confirm that I have not removed any of my scenario from Steam Workshop.

I too am having this problem - I don't have 50 scenarios downloaded from the workshop, but some of the ones that I did have disappeared. I have several "waiting" for download in the workshop, but they haven't downloaded for days now. I wrote this morning for technical support from steam to see if they were aware of the problem and if they had a fix. I haven't heard from them yet.

Let me clarify my statement above. Go to Collections, click on workshop and when it comes up click on "browse" and you will end up on the same steam page you would if you went right from steam. When you subscribe to a scenario now it will be loaded directly into your TS2014 scenario list for whichever route it is for. Now it is part of your TS2014 and you can run it from there. It makes things a lot easier that way and now that they have limited the list to 50 items it won't affect you because you will already have them in your scenarios.
I have been doing it this way since the workshop started. Someone told me about it back then and I have every workshop scenario I have subscribed to since then. I even have some that were pulled from workshop after I got them.
If you ever decide to remove any all you have to do is go to the editors and delete them and they will be removed.
Try it, You'll like it.
