Yes, if you want to use 7zip, change the program that associates compressed files to 7zip. That was the point of Marc sending you that, bro. *!!wink!!*

OK, what he's trying to say, Marc, is that the .ap isn't in that list like you show. Checked my Win 7 64 bit system, I'm not showing a .ap in the list either, but I can open the file if I select then right click, then Extract all.......

Frasern
You can change the file association in Win7 to automatically unzip .ap files with WinZip without changing the file extension to .zip. I have it and it works like a champ. Go to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Default Programs and select "Associate a file type or protocol with a program" and follow the prompts.

Only just saw your post and the penny dropped *!embar*! - you can also set up the file association in WinZip itself - works brilliantly. *!!thnx!!*
Thanks for the tip!!
PeterH

Edit: In Win Zip itself: Choose "Settings", "WinZip" Options" then "System Tab" then tick "the specified alternative extension for Zip Files" put ap in the "Alternate Extension" box. Now open with WinZip appears when you right click on the ap files and you can decompress automatically with WinZip. Thanks again!

Thanks, pH. Hope Tim sees that bit you posted. I don't use WinZip so I can't try it.

UPS
Sorry I have WinZip pro so the association can be done via WinZip options.

I take it when you are in steam\steamapps\common\railworks\content\route-id number:
When you right click on the ap file you see:

If you have the 4th item down 7-zip then click on it will give you the all the options of extraction.

I am surprised that you cannot see the ap files in windows explorer and 7-zip is not there on the right click of any zipped file.

Yes right click on the ap file and you should see something similar to the above. Do you??
If you have the 7-zip option left click on that and you will see all of the extract options as below:
