question mike

Unread postby eyein12 » Mon Jan 20, 2014 2:24 pm

is there a function in rw_tools that shows a list of objects not used by a route within a provider/product directory? so I can delete stuff that isnt being used basically including textures that are used by the objects.

Thanks

Ian

That would be a nice feature if it is not in there already.

Short answer - No.

Middle answer - Why - if you have assets, you might not need them today, but something you download tomorrow might need them?

Long answer - Will look at this if users really think it would be useful, but tricky for things like locos which might call 40 or 50 files like numbers, letters, bogies etc.

Really only useful for routes, Mike. I often create several variations of a single asset, only to wind up using a fraction of what's there. Trying to remember if I used a 25m tree among a half dozen sizes can be near impossible. !**duh*!!

Most likely more useful to route builders. Even though I have a separate install to build the route on, there are assets I will not use in the end. They are all in separate developer folders and it is a major pain trying to weed out what you do not need or did not use.

exactly mike. this is for routes. I basically create 5 scenery objects only to use 1 of them in the route. or if I ened up replacing 1 object with another that object still makes the journey to the end user even though I dont want it to. I dont need it for locos since you already can generate a list of what it does use and just ommitt the non-used items in the folder.

So this would be really useful for me and that should be incentive enough haha.

A small donation would be even more incentive.

I am drudging through this and some other similar processes at the moment as a preparation for uploading my route. I do know a roundabout way that may be what you're looking for...

Make another copy of your Railworks folder containing no Assets or Content. Personally, I find it fastest to first MOVE those two folders to a temp location, copy Railworks, then put the two folders back in place. Create an Assets folder and Kuju subfolder in the new Railworks and copy over the RailSimulatorCore folder and files.
Next, use the RWTools Package Assets routine to collect all your route's Assets.
Lastly, install that into your new Railworks setup and add your route content and you'll have a "clean" setup. I think you'll have to copy "default assets" (the old Kuju legacy stuff) yourself (Mike, can you clarify that part?).

I do this about once a year to clear out the stuff I've collected but decided not to use.

And precisely the reason that I donated at the start of Mike's endeavor.

Hi All,

I had a look at this, and have provided a button on the Check Route screen to list the Provider/Product sets used by any selected route. However on thinking about it, the requested feature is not really feasible.

e.g. Someone is going to check for which files from Kuju/RailSimulator are NOT used in his route - now if he has only used 1 scenery item consisting of 3 files, .bin, .geopcdx and .tgpcdx - He is going to get a list of 32369 files he has not used.
