Hello all,
I've been struggling for the past few hours trying to import DEM data into TS2014 for the first time.
I read BNSFsudivision's excellent tutorial, and followed it to the letter, but try as I might I couldn't get any DEM data to import into the world editor. I kept getting flat ground. I was using the USGS gridfloat data, and running it through MIcrodem to make .bil files, and creating my .hgt files with BILxSRTM. The data from USGS showed 1/3 arc sec gridfloat was available for the co-ordinates around my smallish test area, so I set BILxSRTM to make the .hgt files for 1/3 arc sec. After hours of frustration reading every thread on here about DEM importation I set BILxSRTM to export to 1 arc sec, and suddenly the DEM data imports to the world editor like it was supposed to.
When I was trying to get 1/3 arc sec .hgt files, BILxSRTM output 90 2.8MB .hgt files for the area. At 1 arc sec I ended up with a single 25MB file. Can TS2014 only handle a single SRTM file? Do I have to merge the 90 individual files into 1 somehow? Is there a chance that the data from USGS is NOT actually 1/3 arc sec for the area, like it claims to be? Any ideas? My test area is the valley around Hornbrook, CA.
I'm working on a very mountainous route, and at 1 arc second the ledges that the line clings to are barely discernable in the terrain, so I would love to find a way to get the accuracy up.
