Wow, what else could be different between yours and my installs? Do you run Win 7 as Admin? The only hiccup I had was after I ran the included installer and was finished, Windows popped up and said "this program might not have installed correctly". Since this pops up from time to time installing to Railworks, I told Windows to go ahead and reinstall "correctly" which it did. I had to manually search for the Railworks folder, the installer didn't find it automatically.
"C> Program Files (x86)> Steam> steamapps> common> Railworks. Wasn't really any magic involved at all.

With any repaints, they can't distribute the GeoPcDx files from the original with the repaint. It's in the EULA. So that's the only part you have to physically copy, and it may take a little fiddling to make sure these Geo files get copied into the correct spot. Took me a few tries, keep the readme instructions open, using Windows Explorer, find the exact folder path, only couplers show, do it again, poof. Got it. And clearing the cache, and verifying, then a reboot of the PC will finally get it to work. !**duh*!!

I just deleted the folders that I had installed in the BETH 100t folder and had copied the three Geo pc files into them. That got me to the couplers. I then extracted the setup exe to my desktop and installed it from there maybe that is my problem. Now I have no folders showing at all. And no couplers!!
This setup exe is just now doing it's thing for me.
I do the same procedure on all of my downloaded assets and they work most of the times, so I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

I now have some of the cars loading on the track but they have no wheels showing. Only white missing textures showing on the bottom of them.

Just checking, you did extract all of the files in the zip, including the setup exe, to some place on your disk?
You were not just opening the zip and then double-clicking on the setup exe?

Yes that is how I use all the setup exe's.
I'm not sure if that is the proper way but it's the only method I know.
This is what I do.
I download the file from RWA.
The file goes to my desktop.
Now I open the folder on the desktop.
This shows the readme file and some jpg files (photo of the object) and the setup exe.
Now I click on the setup exe ,and extract it to the desktop.
Then when it's on the desktop I click on it to have it install and wait for the message, Your files have been installed.
I know the readme file says to setup a folder to load the files into but I can no longer load any new folders to my desktop anymore for some reason. The result being now I can only use the desktop.
Yesterday after trying many different methods I finally got some of the repaints to load on the track ,But! they have missing textures showing under the railcars which are the bogies.
I guess I should just stop trying to download repaints.

Thanks,
Bob

Are you using setup exe in admin mode? If not in admin mode the set up will not load the program properly.

I am constantly fascinated how many different ways windows seems to configure itself since I think most of us just have it the default way whatever that is. I don't have to run the installer in admin for it to work.

Not sure if I'm in administrator mode.
I don't even know how to get into or out of it.
Another thing to learn about. !*don-know!*

If you are the main registered user you are the administrator. If you want to check go into the control panel and look for 'User Accounts'.

That may be your problem right there.
You extract the exe, but you don't extract the "Railworks" folder with the actual repaint files in it.
Your setup exe is probably installing whatever old files it finds on your desktop (check if you already have a "Railworks" folder on your desktop). You may have a lot of old stuff on your desktop that you should clean up.

Here's what to do:

1- Download the zip file from RWA. Save it in any temporary folder you want (like "My documents/RWA").
2- Open the zip file and extract all of its contents into the same temporary folder. You should now have both the setup exe and the "Railworks" folder inside this temporary folder, along with the zip file which you don't need anymore, the readme file, one or two jpeg files, and maybe other files.
3- Right-click on the setup exe. Choose "Run as administrator".
4- The installer will display the path to your Railworks installation. Check this and confirm.
5- The installer will now copy the files from the "Railworks" folder inside the temporary folder, to your railworks installation.
6- Ignore any Windows messages about the program maybe not installed successfully.
7- Check the readme for any additional steps, such as manually copying a geopcdx file.
8- Delete the temporary folder.

Thank you very much Chacal.
You have solved my problem the repaints are now working with bogies and couplers and no missing textures.
With your instructions I was able to get these repaints working and have them all in the consist files.
I had no idea that downloading the files to the desktop was not the proper way of doing this.
Maybe now I won't get into so much trouble with downloads and I won't be driving everyone nuts trying to help me out.
Thanks so much to all of you.

Glad I could help.

It's not a question of saving to the desktop, it is a problem with the way WIndows shows you zip files.
Microsoft made a choice that is supposed to make your life easier: Windows lies to you. It lets you browse inside zip files from Windows Explorer, as if they were normal folders. But zip files are NOT folders, they are archived data, and there are some things that you can't do with them, like executing programs from them.

Just remember to treat zip files as archives: you open them, you extract the contents, and then you can use the extracted contents.

As for the desktop: it is not a good place to store files. It is a place to store shortcuts. You should only store files temporarily on the desktop, and clean it up as soon as possible. It gets cluttered and, because WIndows checks all the desktop contents at startup, it will slow down starting up your computer.

Store your files in "My documents".
