Problems with downloads!

Unread postby Railroy19 » Sat Dec 07, 2013 8:24 pm

I'm having a problem finding the download files of the new engine repaints. I use the setup exe that comes with the downoad files, and they say the files are installed but I can't locate the files anywhere. This is something that I have been having problems with lately and maybe I have a problem with my computer settings. It started about a week ago when I tried to install the IC engines from the repaint folders. I know where to look for these files with the explorer but I just can't find these new files anywhere. I just tried the GP20 PHL and the GP38-2 AA REPAINTS. I can't find these anywhere, and they have the setup exe also.
Anyone have any ideas of what I may have changed in my computer that is causing this problem?
Things were going to good here before. :D

Thanks,
Bob

Check to make sure that your path to Railworks is correct before you run the download. It sound like you are sending them off to some destination that is not where your RW folder lives. Remember you can always do this manually and then you know where it goes. PHL should be in the Reppo engine folder and the IC stuff (GP38) should be in the RSC GP38-2 BN Pack1 Loco.

Hello Buzz

Thanks for the reply. I think the exe setup is showing the upload to railworks but they don't show up where the original engine folders are.
I have no idea how to download them manually, way above my knowledge of computers.
My computer is acting very strange lately so maybe I did something wrong somewhere and now I can't get these downloads to work right.
I really would like to get the gp20 working so I could have another road name.

This is where the setup exe goes to c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\railworks
Is this where it should be?

Thanks,

Yes, Bob, that should be the correct install path, as long as that's where your Railworks folder is. My PHL files seemed to download then install OK, but Windows said it wanted to reinstall it "correctly" so I let it. I didn't try and find where the file went once installed, but when I went into the Editor (using Brennan's excellent tutorial: http://3985gtasayoutube.blogspot.com/20 ... in_22.html) the engine showed up in that list once I found "Reppo" in the right side flyout. But all I get is couplers, so I know the file didn't get installed right. I'll grab the readme later and try manually installing the file.

One other thing. Try not to confuse yourself with uploading, downloading and installing files and stuff. Uploading is when you upload a file to a site (like here at RWA) for others to use or see. Downloading is when you download a file or program from a site, like here, to then install and use/ run. Some files you just download then they install themselves. Others you download, "un-Zip", then run an installer. Others you download, un-Zip, then manually place in a file folder (that's the one that I get messed up on sometimes) Zip files are compressed, they must be de-compressed (un-Zipped) before they can be used.

When I find where that file went/ should go, I'll post the path, maybe we can get this to work. I've been dying to get that PHL skin since Joe teased me with it a month or so back. it's a close by short line that's neat to watch.

Also, if you want help with issues you're having with your PC, post down in the "Geek Speak" section. One of us geeks here may be able to help. *!!wink!!*

OK, found where the PHL file goes:
C: Program Files (x86)> Steam> steamapps> common> Railworks> assets> Reppo> GP20packSP> rail vehicles> diesel> Should be gp20SP and GP20PHL files. I'm gonna drop the un-zipped PHL file in there and give it a try. I don't have the Ann Arbor files for the GP38 so not sure about where that file is.

That's assuming you didn't install Steam to another drive other than C:
In some cases, the new folder structure in TS 2014 is befuddling the older installers.
In my case I'd rather have a compressed folder with instructions on where to copy it. It's easier than messing with some installers.

Thank you guys for all the info and websites.
I have looked at the files of the GP20SP and there are no new files showing up there.
They are however showing up in the filter to add the engine on the track but! only the couplers load on the track.
Now I downloaded some other files from RWA just to see what happens and they work fine they show up alright, but they are buildings and regular routes and such. That tells me that my computer is running normal. I also had a problem trying to get the SD40-2 FURX pack to load for some reason I seem to only have problems with engine repaints. This is a mystery to me.
Anyway I will keep trying and see what happens :D

Thanks again

Are you following the instructions to copy and paste the the GeoPcDx files where the instruction says? That is the one thing the installers cannot do for you since that is the proprietary property of the person who made it and is to insure that you actually bought the item before being allowed to use it's shape file. Usually when only the couplers show up it's because the Geo file is not where it's supposed to be. If you need help with that holler and I'll give you some more instruction. It gets easier with practice. !!*ok*!!

I always tell windows I was happy with the install when that pops up. It is always installed right and if I tell to redo it it sends the file off into someplace where it doesn't belong. !*don-know!*

You usually do.
When you get an installer like assetsetup.exe, it comes with a "Railworks" folder. All the installer does is copy this folder to your own Railworks folder. You can do that manually.

A few providers use an executable archive (with the data contained inside the exe), but I suspect you can also open it with a program such as 7zip.

When you get a Rwp package, it is just a variant of a .zip file. You can open the archive with 7zip and just drag the folder inside to your Railworks installation. That's what I do, I haven't used RSC's package manager for months.

OK, figured out where that GeoPcDx file was, it's in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\Reppo\Gp20PackSP\RailVehicles\Diesel\Gp20SP. Just gotta copy it (GP20_SP.GeoPcDx) into the Gp20PHL folder. Bam!

Now I guess I need to RTFM for the GP20, I don't know how to drive the darn thing! !**duh*!! Got it running, but it don't move. *!sad!* Plus exploring the editor in TS 2014. Maybe some of this will help you figure things out, Bob.

Oh, by the way Mr Coffee, there is nothing in your readme about manually installing the GeoPcDx file. Just acknowledging Joe, and to use the installer or manually insert the files. No real detail. and no readme in Joe's files. !*don-know!*

What you talking about boy? I just looked.........

"You must have the GP20 from Reppo to use this re-paint. Install is either run the installer or manually put these assets where the folders lead you then copy the Gp20_SP.GeoPcDx from the SP version and paste it into the Gp20PHL folder.

I never had a readme. *!lol!* This is an non official, official repaint. A shared skin that Buzz is sharing to the RWA community. I'm glad you got it working. Buzz is right tho. The instructions are right there where you download it but I don't know if it is in the file itself. Us veterans take it for granted that the geo's need to get copied over. I never give it much thought. !!howdy!!
