Chacal

I do understand your AP Extractor code - very elegant - brings back fond memories! And I really like Mike's the idea for a .AP Content Extractor for scenarios and routes as well.

I have forgotten how to make a stand alone executable BAT file like Doc's 2-Clickz in NotePad editor. It has been a few years since I dabbled in DOS level coding. He, he.

Thanks Chacal, I am busy adding new buttons to RW_Tools.

Nice to see some of us oldies still know how to write DOS batch files.

I have to say, the current cmd.exe that comes with Windows 7 is much better than the command.com I used when I was a system administrator 20 years ago. I could never had done those advanced tricks like extracting the folder name from a file path.

And when cmd.exe is not fancy enough, I fall back on VB script (like I did for this script). For even fancier stuff like what you do with RW-Tools, I'd need a real programming langage like VB.Net, C++ or C#, but I'm just too lazy to go back to compiled languages.

Hi Chacal,

I still use VB6 for RW_Tools, I know it is pretty old now, but as I am in my 70s, I struggle to learn new languages now but keep plodding away with what I know. With todays better hardware, I no longer need to worry about the speed of the program, the PC takes care of most things...

I have posted a new version of RW_Tools v5.0.32 on my site. It has been updated as follows:-

As the only folders which are regularly required to be unpacked are the RailVehicle folders in Assets and Scenario folders in Content. With a lot of help from 'Chacal' on the RailWorks America forums, I have managed to set up 4 extra buttons on the 'Find all .ap files' screen:-
Extract rolling-stock from all .ap files
Extract scenarios from all .ap files
Extract rolling-stock from all selected .ap files
Extract scenarios from all selected .ap files
These do as they say and are a much faster way of extracting say a few scenarios plus their
associated rolling stock to do some stock swaps etc. The options to extract the scenarios
also extracts the RouteProperties.xml file so that the route name appears correctly in the
scenario editor.
