Unread postby UPSD70ACe » Sun Nov 03, 2013 5:25 pm

Hi say how do I clone a Route? I want to clone the RSC Route and then merge it with my Surfliner Route. I want too use RSC's Route from San Diego to Los Angeles. Then Start in Los Angeles in RSC's version & then merge mine on the northbound.Section of my Surfliner from Los Angeles to Paso Robles I hope you.Understand what I am trying to say.I never cloned a Routes In Railworks.

You can clone routes within the game using the cloning feature in the Build section. However, merging would be tough, even if you used the same start tile, as there's no available tool to merge track (it's contained in a single Tracks.bin database).

If your start tile is the same as RSC's, then you could copy your scenery tiles over (just not overwrite the RSC ones), and then make tweaks to suit. You then have to relay track I'm afraid. Good luck.

I'm only giving a couple of suggestions. I have no interest in merging routes.

RSC's version begins in San Diego - have a look at the lat/lon in the RouteProperties.xml.

I think Otto posted something about merging routes recently on the Trainsim.com forums.
If I recall correctly, this was an exercise in frustration and his conclusion was pessimistic.

It simply can't be done. Each route's tiles are placed as offsets from the StartTile which has its bottom left corner at the lat/long set in the RouteProperties.xml file when you first create a route. This tile is the one with the name +000000+000000.bin - every other tile in the route is based on this tile. Within the tile, every object is shown as an offset from the bottom left corner of the individual tile with an X and Z position.

If the earth was perfectly flat and square, then it would be possible to calculate the amount to change tiles / assets positions to merge the routes, but the world is not flat (at least some people don't think so), so it just can't be done.

As Marc says, you can merge 2 routes with EXACTLY the same start position, but even then, the track would need to be relaid on one of the routes. There was a program on one of the European sites which attempted to merge the tracks.bin files, but I can't remember where it was, nor how successful this merge was.

If it was successful, people would be doing it.

If I remember correctly the tool only worked if the two routes had the same origin. So it was of very limited practical use, if any.
"Life is like a journey, taken on a train
With a pair of travelers at each windowpane.
I may sit beside you all the journey through,
Or I may sit elsewhere, never knowing you.
But if fate should mark me to sit by your side,
Let's be pleasant travellers; it's so short a ride."
