...modifying existing shapes is possible...right??

Unread postby wongsing » Wed Sep 23, 2009 9:31 pm

...So I finally gave 3d canvas a shot and wow! What a cool program! I think I could really do some damage with that...(hopefully not literal damage of course!) At any rate, while trying to explore the possiblities that could ease the learning curve, perhaps someone could give me some insight on whether or not its possible to modify a shape file that already exists. We'll take this for example (and don't worry, if this were possible and I had the skills, I WOULD ask permission!)...Ok, so back on topic here...I really like the SD40-2 model we have already, and the GP38-2 is great too! Now suppose I wanted to do something subtle such as change the GP38-2 into a straight GP38? Very similar models indeed...How about the GP38-2 into a much needed (by us few Chessie fans) GP40-2 with correct parts? i.e: adding the extra fan, correct horn, no ac, new rock pilot, no ditchlights...etc. Anyways, I hope this hasn't been asked while I was out of the loop. If this is infact a possibility, it could open the door for MANY possiblities and maybe even encourage some of us (..eh-em..'scuse me) to be more proactive in learning content creation! Just a thought...Anyone care to add some input? Maybe some advice...

Hi Rich

You can't really take anything away from an existing object but you can add things to it..

The only way to remove an object is if the geoPcDx is hacked it may be possible to change the shader to a type that supports alpha punch through / cut.. if this is acheived then making the relevant portions of the alpha channel in the relevant texture pure black will make them totally transparent .. ie invisible.

I don't think it is really a realistic proposition.

As for adding objects this is done by making a straight forward scenery objest then adding it as a child to you chosen model.
This will work quite successfully for things like extra horns etc.

Making simple add on objects will give you a good grounding in the methods used in production for RS... from i is only a small step to your first loco :D

Good Luck
