Hi, I'm just started with repaints doing myself today to give it a try. I had a few questions though.
1. How can I outline the doors on the side of the engine more?

2. And without painting over details like labels and hoses ect.. how can you change the color of that? Like the snowplow area or trucks?

What paint program do you use? Try to use a semi see through layer for your new colors like a soft light option. Doing this will allow the details to come through the new color. You will need to paint out the first roadnames, logos etc. You can also use the alpha channel to start with a blank unit. For your first few though, play around with the transparent layers.

I'm using Photoshop 7.0, got it from my grandpa awhile ago.
Well I'm making a bit of progress on it.

This is what I'm going to try to make this unit look it.

Work up your repaint using layers. To over paint the layer with a new colour while maintaining the details under try to use a layer blending mode of overlay. You may want to experiment with the different blending options. Like Heavy Chevy said, use an alpha channel to create a grey scale base to work form. This way the colour overlay does'nt get polluted with the under layer colour.

I'm not sure exactly how to use alpha channel on Photoshop 7. At the moment, I'm trying to repaint a ballast hopper; and I can't seem the paint over the NS logo on the side. I want to make it complete black car will like the other logos on it but not the NS.I watch a few videos on repainting, but I tried that and it brings up the old color of the car when I want to use like the LD LIMIT on the side and things.
Thanks

In the mean time to get more practice. I was working on the ballast hoppers to look like LGEX rolling stock. This is what it looks like. But I can't seem to get like the NS part to go away and the LD LMT to show brighter. I just typed LGEX over the other lettering that was there.

I put a template for the Cornell GP38 in the library. It has the map, and a clean silvery base to work from. It would help you a lot.
Search in the RW2 section for MadMike

I'd try darkening the color a bit more to hide the old lettering, then add the LDLMT and such as text after that, just as you did the reporting mark.

Try copying a bit of the paint from a bit further down the bodyside ( make sure it's the same height so the shading is the same ); select an area with the marquee tool, hit Ctrl-J to get a new layer, choose the Move tool, hold shift down so it only goes in one direction and drag your new layer over the text. Once you've got it all lined up, merge the two layers and use the Mend tool to blend the edges of your pasted patch.

I take it this is what you're getting.
IE8.jpg
I'm getting that in IE 8 and 7 also. 'Course I never use IE.
My guess is it's something to do with the coding used to build the site the images are hosted on.
