Grab Irons in Blender

Unread postby Johnybotto » Fri Sep 09, 2011 8:31 am

Hello all,
This is my first post here and RW2 is my first train sim. I have been a model railroader for 40 years, so this will be a new adventure for me. I have 2 rail cars under construction and need some help with creating grab irons in Blender.I have tried nurbs and bezier curves and can't seem to control the radius of the curves to produce consistent uniform curves. Can any Blender users give me some tips on how they create grab irons.

Thank you,
John

Create a torus using less polygons as possible (take a look at the numbers)
Image

Rotate a little the torus to re align, then select one half vertices and move it along X axis to the desired position.

Do the same with the other half, and then repeat with the lower half in Y axis.

Delete undesired polygons.

I hope this help.

That is perfect! I never would have thought of doing them that way. Thank you for your reply!
