Working up a set of templates for the GP15...

Unread postby MadMike1024 » Mon Aug 15, 2011 11:38 am

by David Brindley. I've done the door lines and EMD labels as a second transparent layer, and desaturated and lightened the base layer. Here's a project I'm doing to try to map the parts locations.

Still having issues with the trucks file being very blurry and low contrast. As such, this is still a WIP. Once completed, I'll put the template up for download.

Mike, you seriously need to get a program that uses alpha channels so your repaints don't look like glass. Has anyone tried getting you on the right path yet?

Because you can get a blank of that GP15 and paint on it in 5 minutes and not look like glass.. Not trying to knock you down, seriously offering some help.

One reason you will not see many repaints of the GP15 is because it was not a hot seller.

Styckx, Mike knows about the issue. Gimp is killing his alpha channels, while he is figuring it out I have been adding them back on for him. By the way, how did you do the outline for the doors?

I didn't do anything, they were already there.. Convert it to black and white, clone tool out the white stripes on the nose and nail and you have a blank. Adjust layer brightness accordingly.

I'd love to, but I just don't have the kind of money it requires. I'm retired, and the Wife and I live on a small pension and SS.

With Papa's help, here's where we are:

That logo patch is a serious pain, it has no alpha channel, and when you add one it ignores it, so getting the color to match the body takes a lot of time. It would be a real benefit to have it vanish.

Just had a interesting thought. I wonder if Kali could make a child object for us that would cover the logo patch and use auto numbering?

BTW Mike, I just need to adjust the color (its a bit off white than the rest) for #6 on the number board and I will put them in the folder sync.

Thanks! Optionally, just figure out how to make it go away, or modify the code to use the alpha channel so you can make it transparent if you wish.

Oh I know how to make them go away using the alpha, I was just struggling with how to make them drop out. I will chat with you tonight.

I just uploaded an improved version of the template. It replaces the cartoony black lines with a semi-transparent bump map, and includes a nice set of numberboard only numbers from PapaExpress. The UPY is waiting for a bit of love from Papa, and it will be available. a Frisco GP7/GP15 set is up next.
