Passenger Train Switching at Terminals

I've been working on a scenario for the Miami route where a hostler takes a passenger train that has arrived and switches the cars to the correct tracks for servicing. Unfortunately, I've never seen a book or article that documents such operations. Does anyone have any suggestions for reading on this subject?

I noticed that the publishing / edition dates are kind of wide apart. 1975 and 1916.
Does the 1975 one also include all the 1916 information, or has stuff been removed?
