Lightweight Passenger Car Windows

Good Day:
I was wondering if there is a way to change the window configuration of any of the available Lightweight Passenger cars? Or maybe turn-off the layers, so you would have a blank sides, and then You could just paint the Windows in the right spot. I guess it would be like a "Low Poly" version of a car. I would like to make a few of the CN&W 56 Seat Coaches. See Below.

As always, Thanks in Advance for any help.. *!!thnx!!*

Hi,

I don't think that this is possible unless you can find a very low-poly (probably MSTS-import) model of a coach that doesn't have the windows modeled in the actual 3D model. Back in MSTS, many modelers "cut out" the windows from the flat side of the coach using alpha transparency on the textures, but I don't know of any models in RW that were built like that. In all the RW passenger cars that I know of, the windows are all actual holes in the 3D shape that can only be moved by editing the 3D source file itself.

Cheers,
Michael

Michael:

Thanks for getting back to me. I figured if anyone would know it would be you. I altered cars that Gaetan Belanger made when I was into MSTS, using the very process you described. I was kind of hoping, there would be a similar one floating around in the woods. It is strange there is not a 56 seat coach out for RW. A lot of railroads used them. When the CNW went to the Bi-Levels, the Great Northern & Northern Pacific bought a bunch of them. Thanks & Take Care, Stefan

I have a set of MSTS conversion cars that might work for you to possibly create what you want. If you would like to play with them holler and I'll pack them up for you. Not sure where I got them from.

Messed around with this some more this afternoon.. Can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear but this should work pretty well. Going to pack it up and have a link here tomorrow if the creeks don't rise.
