Removing Seasonal Snow from Dogmouse ALCo S2

Unread postby PullmanCar » Sat Jan 28, 2023 8:47 pm

Hello all,
Recently I have been experimenting with attempting to remove snow loads from locomotives where snow seasonally appears.

The BL2 I have been able to remove the snow, as it appears to be a series of child objects, however the S2 I have had no such luck. I quite like the snow, but also enjoy "Indoor Variants" for when the S2s are stored inside the diesel shop, museum, or are running on a wintery day when there is snow on the ground but none falling. I love the look of the snow in certain times, but was hoping I could have a second .bin "ALCo S2 Fruit Belt - Indoors.bin", for instance. Might anyone have any suggestions on removing the winter snow and icicles from Dogmouse's fabulous S2s?

Thank you,

Hi,

Based purely on a look at the file structure of the lovely S-2, one of these options ought to do the trick:

1) you'll need a duplicate of the engine's Geo file for this. In it, search for any strings:
<e d:type="cDeltaString">textures\[08]

and replace them with:
<e d:type="cDeltaString">textures\[00]

This ("code 00") will instruct the renderer to ignore any seasonal textures if present.

2) if you want to keep the seasonal textures active but edit them, you can do this:

-- create a full clone of the engine you want to "de-ice", including all its textures
-- edit the blueprint to match the new folder, etc.
-- go into the new no-snow versions texture folder and look for any texture files with a "_wi" suffix (e.g. ro_bogie_Wi.tgpcdx). Those are the winter version of the textures that have the snow effects painted on.

Cheers,
Michael

Thank you very much for the suggestion. I shall try testing that out now.
* EDIT * - SUCCESS! Thank you very much.
