Finally Got My Boxcar In to The Sim!

Unread postby TheKman » Wed Sep 30, 2020 6:56 pm

After a summer of battles with this boxcar namely dealing with the blueprint and fine tuning, I have a working model!

The car has just a few issues, but it doesn't interfere with it operating in the sim.

Here are the two issues.
1. When flipping the car upon placing it on the track in the scenario editor, only the roof of the car can be flipped. The rest of the car does nothing.

2. I'm still trying to add audio to it. I'm thinking I need to make audio blueprints for the bogies and couplings and the reference the .xml files to the blueprint for the boxcar. Trying to add a proxy .xml from another audio file doesn't work. Might be I'm still not naming the directory path for it correctly. Doing it thru the .bin file didn't work either.

Other than those two items, the rest of it works.

Can we see it?
Da Build: Intel Core I5-9600k, Nvida RTX 2060 Super, 32 GB ram, and way too much storage.

Enclosed are some pics. Also, I have completed a working C&S bulkhead flat. I still need to figure out how to add audio. All I need to know is if I need to make audio blueprints or if I can reference the audio files from say a DTG car.
If I can indeed reference the audio, what would the path to the asset look like? Example: Assets\DTG\Solider Summit\RailVehicles\flatcar\audio\bogies\.xml name

Thanks

Are the doors on the boxcar 3D modeled or is that just a flat texture?

It's a texture. This is my first car so I used the KISS method on it for a reason. My feelings are if you can do good texture work, one can avoid 3D drawing that perhaps unnecessarily taxes the model polygon wise. And I've found texturing on some items actually looks better than if it was drawn and textured. And if a person does a lot of 3D modeling, one can spot when textures are solely used or if a model has some 3D detail. It's all a personal choice as to what you want to do.

3rd car out the door. Got the hang of this now. Same bulkhead flat with a load added.
