Dash 9 trucks

Unread postby TheTeenageFoamer » Fri Jan 05, 2018 5:10 pm

I'm guessing it's not possible to make a D9-40C "top hat" by taking the trucks off the D9 and putting them on the D8-40C?
Because I would love a top hat dash 9, since they were common in the 90s and early 2000s

Since the bogies are a child object it might just work.

Forget about it. The trucks are not actual child objects, hence cannot be removed or copied over.

I have really thought hard about doing the standard cab NS Dash-9. But it is exclusively an NS unit - there are no other repaints that could be done for it.

Studies in both virtual railroad companies like yours or mine, and HO scale industries show the eastern rail nuts will shell any amount of cash you demand for NS exclusive engines like these or SD60Es. Lord only knows why, NS sucks.

Officially off topic
At the moment Nighttime and Sundays sucks somewhat less than the CSX mess.

Well, we will see about the "any unit, any price" for NS. If the 39-8 does well, this might be one to.consider. Actually sometime back I started converting the C39-8 to it's "Phase II" configuration - essentially the C40-8 carbody. Add some trucks and cabview, wallah.

As far as CSX goes, there were barely a functioning railroad before Harrison (RIP Brother) came along. The early buzz is that Foote is following in his footsteps to prove to the BOD that he is the right man for the job. I know a lot of folks are fans of the Predacessors, but not so much CSX. If the Spartan D9 was UP, it would be a different story.

Ok, before I do anything, i'm trying to gauge if there is really any interest in this. There are several things that have to be considered here. Although i'll be using the C39-8 as a template, and some changes have already been made, it would still be a significant build. The cab, doors, lower radiator, side sills, truck frames, fuel tank, and sound would have to be changed. The most significant change, however, would be the control stand, which was a hybrid AAR/Gevo type deal. I'm estimating 4-9 months conversion time from the starting point - AFTER the C39-8, U33, and U34CH are released. A lot could happen in that time, from TSW market share cannibalism to just plain being to busy to deal with it. So, if you want it, rally your supporters and give me enough reason to do it.

I would not worry about TSW market share cannibalization at this time or the near future. There is still so much divide about the TSW. When and if an editor is released you can bet that things will roll just like the first day of release with all associated bugs and other issues. There are just so many more people who play TS. They will love what you produce. To paraphrase "build it and they will buy".

Would this be an appropriate time to rally for an ALCo while Jerry is contemplating the next project? *!lol!*

There is never a bad time to rally for an Alco. The sounds could be a bit problematic though.
