Wheel rotation issues

Unread postby sswgp60 » Sun Feb 14, 2016 9:06 pm

Hello all,

I created a truck and 2 wheels via 3ds Max 2016 and imported them into Railworks. My issues is that both wheels rotate off of their axis's. I've spent a good 7hrs at this and haven't had much luck in correcting the issues.. Any help would be greatly appreciated. !*hp*!

The wheel objects need to be centered on their axis, the trucks at 0.
Cheers!

Hi Marc,

Thank you for you reply, are you saying that I need to center the wheels/trucks within 3ds Max world coordinates? or in the Blue Print editor?

Regards,

The wheels should have a world center about their axis, whereas other objects can be centered to zero world axis. They need to spin independently.

You must place the pivot points like this.

All, thanks for responding- I went back and adjusted the world coordinates for each object (I like to believe I have) and it didn't affect the wheel rotation. It looks like its being offset somehow- could I be filling out the Blueprint editor incorrectly? Also, I created the wheel sets with a spline then extruded and mirrored it... Would this be a problem?

Thank you again for your help.

You can either reset the world coordinates for the wheels, or try creating a new box object centered to the wheel's axis and attach the wheel to it and deleting the box.
Cheers!

Viewing your blueprint more carefully I notice a few thinks I never do, but I´m not sure if that could be the reason.
First. You have several several dimensions below 1 meter without the 0 and starting with ".". I don´t know if that could be a problem but just in case add the zero to get the number like this "radius 0.4572"
Second. In the first part of the blueprint, the 3th line is Geometry. I always fill it with the geometry of the bogey "Bo01"

Also I can´t tell if you are using point or comma for decimals. You should use comma.

All, thank you for your help. I sincerely appreciate it. I had to go back to my initial spline and recreate the wheel set. At that point I created a box around each wheel to reset the axis and then deleted the box per Hack advise. Which did the trick! :D I fiddled around with the pivots for hours and and got nowhere.

Thank you again Hack and LordMannu!

I'm sure I'll be needing assistance again soon!
