@bpetit: go man, go!

@CSXgp38-2: you could "build" a stack flare and institute it in the same way as a smoke emitter. I didn't cover particle effects, which is the way it would be done, in the tut simply because RSC provides such a wide variety of "smoke" already. And yes, I suppose you could do the stack flare through scripts. I'm pretty busy trying to tidy the loco up for Beta testing, but I may revisit this issue once it's "finished".

It's highly improbable that RSC will ever get around to making one, so it might be a job for someone who has a personal interest in it. Out here on the East Coast, i've only seen and photographed one of the beasties, and I think i'm going to stick to making locos that hang around DeButts and the AND.

I wouldn't say I have an "interest" in a locomotive that wasn't delivered fully ready to go with what was promised (like Donner pass *!rolleyes!* ) but it would fill in a big hole for missing locos on the UP Transcontinental line. I am hopefully going to get a new computer that can handle 3D modeling and see what I can do! *!!wink!!*

There may be a bit of interest also in that unit in the sharp Indiana Railroad colors. I get the feel that if you did decide to do it, the 9043 would be very popular.

I agree, and if I can learn, the SD90 series (43MAC, -H, plain 90 etc) would be on my list, along with a UP E9, or UP 844 (maybe even redo the Challenger and Big Boys eventually, if RSC doesn't get around to it)

(in honesty, I didn't even think about the Indiana RR, and it would be an awesome addition!)

I would love to see some more American steam locomotives in the game.

They could really boost up interest to Railworks and also help the library here at RailworksAmerica.

I have seen a lot of reference photo's for the UP 844 steam locomotive on the internet, including pictures of the cab, that might be the best place to start.

Ladies and Gentlemen, if you have the beta test version of the C39-8 that is featured in this tutorial in your possesion, I need PMs with final comments, corrections, and suggestions in by Monday, July 23rd. After that date, everything is locked in and no further changes will be made to the unit before the public release.

I have the beta and on my side it runs great and looks great, I would say that it's ready for public release, everything worked well, including the breaks.

PRESS RELEASE - General Electric C39-8 Locomotive for Railworks TrainGame 2012.

C398PromoRWA.jpg

SMMDigital is proud to announce the release of it's first fully-operational locomotive for TrainGame 2012 - the GE C39-8.

Prototyped in the years 1984-1987, this unit was a bridge and test-bed for new and improved systems between the Dash 7 and the very popular C40 series. Although GE's horrid reputation at the time limited orders for this locomotive to under 200 units total, the C39 was a proven workhorse. It was in service on three different Class-One railroads for over 20 years, and some examples still survive on short lines and foreign roads.

Featured as the "guinea-pig" unit in the Locomotive Building Tutorial, the finished version's standard features include (but are not limited to):

- Control surfaces representative of the prototype
- Projected exterior lights
- Weather-affected glass visible in the cab of the unit, with operational wipers
- Unit auto-numbering reflecting the prototype (not available on FCCA)
- Backlit instrument gauges for night running
- Radio chatter recorded from the NS Atlanta North District
- Descriptive manual fashioned after the actual operations manual for the unit

This release will feature four different setups:

Norfolk Southern short-hood forward, available in 2 road numbers
Norfolk Southern long-hood forward, available in 152 road numbers
Conrail (post NS acquisition) with same numbers as NS
FCCA (Ferrocarill Central Andino), one road number.

The tenative release date for this package is August 12, 2012.

It could be 2000 again, as a pusher unit helps double a train over the curve.
