New Item underway at BLLW Some help required...

Unread postby TVRRMAN » Wed Jun 03, 2009 10:06 pm

Well, I'm finally ready to openly say a little on what I have been working on beyond closed doors at BLLW.

Due to a large lack of passenger stock, I've been building Pullman heavyweight sleeping cars to the exact plans. The car shown here (for what it's worth) is a Six Section, three drawing room (6-3) equipped with Pullman Ice Air Conditioning.

(Image edited to reflect the completed car as shown in 3D Canvas Pro)
As you can see, I've been making good headway, but at this point have run a ground in extensive problems dealing with the model itself exporting properly with the textures (The interior texture renders right, yet the Tuscan outside texture refuses).

EDIT: Currently the model now exports properly from 3D Canvas Pro, but will not export from the Assets Editor. Each time I receive mention of error reading Either Texdiff or any of the texture .fx engines, on line 1003. Has anyone encountered this with any model of theirs? Thanks in advance

Ok guys,

New Update: the model's at a stage where it's near done. All coupler settings are finalized, as are my artwork files. Currently my last holdup is that even though my textures exported properly, I am having issues with the main two textures going to the disgusting red colors shown still. Could it be settings in the Bin files? I'm really at a loss on this one.

Tom, I would suggest asking Dick C. Since he's got some passenger cars available, maybe a question or two aimed at the big fella might give ya an answer or two.

Hey, I called ya back but no one picked up on the 4th. Holler back if you get the chance.

I've seen this happen in the past, and IIRC the red is caused by alpha channels on certain shaders.
Try either removing the alpha channel in the affected textures or changing the shader on the affected parts.

Re TexDiff, in 3dCanvas DO NOT put the .fx extension on the end. It is just TexDiff not TexDiff.fx
Fairly certain thats the rule. Also if you have an alpha on your texdiff i think is when the red occurs...

Well,

I have some good news. Thanks to some one on one tutoring, The KRS Pullman Car's artwork is now showing up. (PRR Textures shown converted by Rick Grout).
Image
Apparently the problem was definitely not within the bin files as originally thought and anticipated, but lurked within the texture exporting process as a whole. I've been using a combination of PSP7, TGAtool2 (to create the alpha channel and save as a TGA file, and then shooting it into DXTbmp where it was exported as an ace. However, the DXTbmp program apparently could not handle the artwork sizes and tried downsizing, only to partially fry the artwork. Not knowing this, the asset editor was frying them the rest of the way. Problem solved and the answers documented....
