I lost my Routes

I lost my Routes

Unread postby railduffer » Mon Jun 17, 2024 1:20 pm

I received notice of the new Railworks 2024, and then it installed it. I ran it for a day or two running railworks' routes and two routes of my own making. Something seemed strainge to me. So, i wondered if something had gone wrong with the instalation. "It must be" I said to myself, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the program. BIG MISTAKE! Upon starting the program again I have lost my own two routes that I had developed. I will be the first to acknoledge that I am not a computer whiz. Nor am I Railworks whiz. So I need help. Can anyone show me how to get these routes back if possible?

Did you have them backed up anywhere?

They may be there but TSC has simply lost them. Close TSC and try this, navigate to Railworks/Content and locate RVDBCache, RVDBCashe.bin.MD5, SDBCache, SDBCache.bin.MD5, SDBCache, SDBCache.bin.MD5 and delete them. When TSC restarts it will search your TSC data base and index and rebuild the all of those. It will take a while depending on how large your folder and how fast your system is. Be patient. When done it will open to the Drive screen. have done this before to find lost routes and scenarios. This is where TSC keeps an index of all of your routes and scenarios and it may have been corrupted during your installation. If you are nervous about this simply Copy and paste each of those into the same folder and then delete the original files. This will keep the original cashe files safe.

Seems to be more then that, Routes, assets.

It looks like they've completely wiped out all of the third party assets, including Darlan's locomotives. All for only their junk payware to remain. If that's the case, I'm done with Railworks. I will try to reinstall it again, but if it's not possible to restore these other items I will never run the sim again.

Also seems that the package manager, and utilities is missing as well.

You don´t need to resign to RW. But this event has already a month running.

Do you have a previous backup? I hope so in case you lost third parties assets.
1- Do a full file verification from Steam.
2. Your mods are usually located in folders out of your .AP files (both in routes and assets).
3. If you lost mods and third parties assets and routes acquisitions, try to recover them in a one-by-one basis from your backup.
4. It is probably sure you did not lost mods except for those old DTG assets and route that did not use .AP.

Did you happen to back up to the Steam Cloud?

I didn´t even know this was possible. I guess that is a service you have to pay.
I have 184GB in TSC alone. Imagine those with twice that size.
And imagine that people with a 600 games collection.

It is included with Steam. It just needs to be enabled. Steam/Settings/Cloud/enable.

Does it save the mods files and folders?
And is it a possible source for future trouble (compared to your own drive backups)?

It only works with content installed through Steam as I read it. Worthless for most of us.
Note:
Many games that use third party installers or downloaders will not work with Steam's backup feature. This includes many MMO style or third party free to play titles. Only games that completely download, install, and patch through Steam are compatible with this tool.
