IIRC the game doesn't support humping.
If you open the brake line the cars will stop.

I tried that long ago, and it didn't work as far as I can remember. Mind you, the game was still offially known as Railworks back when I did those tests... !!jabber!!

In any case, I think the issue was that the car physics simply stopped being simulated when the car got some distance away from the train (or camera, don't remember).

There is only one train simulator that I know of which simulates rail vehicles phyiscs on the whole map: Derail Valley! Which is in my opinion also the best train game for fans of yard and industrial switching (or perhaps even the best train sim/game ever). It doesn't have a hump yard in it, but some yards are next to a downhill slope which could be used. Kicking (unbraked) cars also works really well in DV. !!*ok*!!

As someone who has kicked and dropped cars in the real world, this has been the feature this simulation is missing the most. I have commented on this a few times in the past. Most versions of Trainz were supportive of free rolling cars. The idea seems to be that supporting cars with brakes off is "destructive". I have mentioned that there needs to be a way to "click" on a car,and release the brake. Then a hand brake could be applied in say three increments. It REALLY seems this could be done to the core game. But since real railroaders have little input on design,we will have to keep dreaming. I also think this is the reason there is very little early pre-airbrake rolling stock in here.(1830-1870) On a related note,I believe early EMD GP38's were the last locomotive that would have poling pockets. As cars became heavier this practice was fading by the mid 1950's.
