Stuck in the snow at Donner Pass - how to control train speed ?

Starting to play steam engines again, using the simple controls mode.

Currently I am doing "CF4 Stuck in the snow CS" scenario in the Southern Pacific Cab Forward on the Donner Pass.

I seem unable to control the train speed, going downhill, with the train brake. Train is going down too fast or way too slow.

Not sure what the solution is. Should I try riding the brake ?

Thanks

PS: Just noticed there is not a TS2021 forum yet

In a few other scenarios where even dynamic breaking doesn't keep things under the limit, applying the car brake to cause drag to slow things down worked for me.

The Cab Forward is a steam loco.

Correct, is a steam engine.

By "riding the breaks" and changing lapping pressure constantly I managed to beat this racing game and arrive on time :-)

Is that the way to go or are there other options ?
