Photogrammetric models

Unread postby SAR704 » Sat Sep 05, 2020 2:11 am

I only just heard about this for the first time minutes ago. But it made me wonder if it would ever be possible to have models produced via such a method in TS or TSW(2).

Has anyone on this forum ever got involved in this process? I know it can't be that simple. But I thought I'd ask anyway. I am not over-excited or anything, as my expectations are not particularly high as an Australian user of TS who isn't familiar with TS scripting.

About 8 months ago,I purchased a higher quality camera to investigate PG. I used trial and freeware PG programs. My intent was do do some automobile models ,both for 3d printing, and TS related. I was very dissatisfied with the results. Eliminating the background is one of the tricky aspects of the process. The PG software is kind of the pre-cursor of 3D scanners. My observation is that 3D scanning technology is at a standstill. I truly believe businesses do not want it to be practical to reproduce their products.
I can understand that. But I am a model maker in different scales and types, and it would be a great help. The days of scratch building masters, and casting them in resin,is about over. I have a few locomotives I have been working on for years, for this Sim,and to 3D print in N scale. You are welcome to investigate PG,but do not get your hopes set too high. Joe

It would be cool if somehow you could take the scenery data of Flight Simulator 2020 and use it for routes in a train sim. It would be a lot of work to get it to work well, but the potential results would be well worth it.

Would be cooler if Microsoft decided to release a new version of Train Simulator using the MSFS engine!

It will get abandoned five weeks before the release date.

I doubt that using the name MSTS2 or MSTS X would instill confidence in those who are eagerly awaiting it's release. Starting fresh with reassurance of it's development and support would be ok. But MS have been known to abandon all support for these sims.

Where as DTG occasionally still subtly indicate that they at least know that TS still exists. It's the difference between global giants and smaller companies.

I think we are wandering off topic.
