Issues with Modding Chuff Sounds

Unread postby SteamForever4449 » Tue Aug 25, 2020 9:26 pm

I’m attempting to mess with the chuffing sounds on SP 4449, and I completed all the audio files, put them where they needed to be, and then I added and activated them in the SP4449.proxyxml file. I launched the engine on a grade with a heavy train so I could hear it well, and rather than the new audio being used, there wasn’t any noise at all other than the idle hiss and the bell.

I checked and all of the sound samples are spelled correctly and found in the correct folders, and all the curves, modifier chains, and steam exhaust elements use the proper numbers and controls, so I’m at a loss at this point. I know it’s possible to put custom audio on the chuffs, because until now I’ve been using the chuffing sounds from a Berkshire upgrade. What exactly am I doing wrong and how do I get the audio to play correctly?

Not to be a wise guy but you kept saying you did all this correctly. If you had it should work.

I did an experiment which proves otherwise. I save every version of every proxy file I modify, so I substituted the previous one with the Berkshire sounds, gave my sound files the same name as the Berkshire sound files, and put them in the Chuffs Hi folder. Didn’t hear a thing.

Are your sound files in .dav or .wav format? If you've done everything correctly then you would hear sounds. You said all you did was rename them to the same sound files and pasted them into the chuffs hi folder? I've done similar things with different engines and sounds with no issues. So if everything is the correct format and labeled identical and still no sound then I have no other ideas. Also be careful with cut and paste if you used it to copy the names. It sometimes adds a space at the beginning or end of the text being copied.
