GN S2 Glacier Park for Cascadian Northern

Just uploaded for the library; a variation of the Great Northern Railway's Glacier Park scheme, based on historical photos. GN's Glacier Park colors differed somewhat, depending on which shop applied the paintwork; so any difference between this version and those of other contributors can actually lend some authenticity when used together. Credits and special thanks to developers Rick Grout (G-TraX S2 loco) and Dick Cowen (Britkits tender) for providing the original products which served as the foundation for these repaints, and for graciously giving the green-light to share this collective work with you.

Britkits freeware "Extra Tenders" (for Geo files and dependencies) are required for the optional Vanderbilt tender installation (optional because some folks already have one). If you'd like to get a head-start, Britkits Extra Tenders are available on this page: http://dickyjim.com/steam.html (please review the other fine offerings while you're there).

This repaint should be available in the next RWA Library update. !!howdy!!

As strictly a matter or personal preference, I prefer this shade of green to the other. Looking forward to getting hold of this in due course

*!!thnx!!*

and to Rick & Dick for their generosity !!*ok*!!

Love the repaints! Very crisp as well. Having trouble with the tender though. I’ve followed all instructions but still doesn’t work.

Thanks, I'm happy you are enjoying the paint-work; hopefully you can get that tender working...

Being one of the more complicated installations in the library, my first thought goes to step-4 of the tender installation; when you unpack the Britkits ap-file to copy the Geo-file, there are several to chose from, and the filename has to be exactly as described below:

"4. Caution! There are several similar file-names involved during this step, so please be attentive to select the correct file-name exactly as described: From the open 'Tenders_Assets.ap' file, navigate to Tenders\ and copy the 12w-ld-vandi-o-tender_nhl.GeoPcDx file and paste it into the 'Tender_GN_Vandi' folder located here:
Railworks\Assets\G-TraX\Preservation\RailVehicles\Steam\Northern\GlacierPark\Tender_GN_Vandi"

Since no one else has reported any issues (currently 183 d/l's), I'd recommend triple-checking everything, including the steps performed during the original Britkits installation. If you discover what went wrong, please post back, as it may help someone else in the future. Thanks!

I was having a quick look (and re-read the instructions for a 5th time) and realised that you have to have "Britkits" ticked in the pop-out asset window, and then the tender showed up.

Selecting the repaints:

To find the repaints in the scenario builder/editor, select "Britkits\Steam" and "G-Trax\Preservation" in the assets flyout panel (right-side of screen). Then look for the following entries in the left-side locomotive assets-list to select each repaint:

So I imagine you have installed it properly, it is just not showing up becuse of this?

I'm having the same problem as ThstGuy, but I'm trying to create a new consist in QD. If I select the GN Vanderbuilt 12 wheel tender, nothing shows up. I can save the consist, but then it will crash TS when I fire up a QD.

I'm sure I've followed the instructions correctly, although I'm not using the scenario builder/editor.

I've managed to get the tender to show up and load properly in both the QD consist editor and in a normal QuickDrive scenario, by replacing the BritKits references in the tender bin file, along with correcting the path for those items to the Tender_GN_Vandi directory.

Now I think I need to fix number textures... any pointers on how to get this sorted?

Seems you're having continual issues with this repaint. It's been a while since working on this one, but all I can say is that when I painted the loco, everything worked; but I only tested in free roam scenarios that I created in the world editor, hence no "quick drive" testing. Also, there are instructions in the Britkits readme that address the numbering-marking system that is unique to Britkits products. Unfortunately, this, in combination with the instructions in my own readme, makes for a very complicated installation. But with careful attention to detail, it can be done; but I wouldn't recommend this repaint for anyone just getting started with installing repaints into the sim, simply due to all the steps involved. This repaint is basically for those GN aficionados who just gotta' have the prototype Vanderbilt tender behind their S2's. So all I can say, is continue to read over the instructions until you reach a solution. This repaint will work; it just takes some careful reading and file selection / placement.

If anyone else has some advice, please feel free to chime in; thanks.

Hi Rudi,

Your reply gave me enough clues to sort out the problem. The tender_numbers.dcsv file needed some numbers in the
section, so I stuck in 2555 (one of the loco numbers) and it worked (I'm assuming there are no numbers actually painted on the tender, based on your screenshot in the first post).

Vandi_Tender_fixed.jpg

So, to sum up the fixes required to get the tender working, with QuickDrive and QD Consist builder:
- edit the 12w-ld-vandi-o-tender_nhl.bin to replace the BritKits component references with the G-TraX ones provided in the folder structure for Tender_GN_Vandi
- edit tender_numbers.dcsv and replace the xxxxXxxx with some numbers so that the texture files are selected properly. I'm not sure if a full selection of numbers is needed (but I don't think it matters if it's supposed to appear blank)

Looks great!

That's great news; glad you got it working. And thanks for sharing your quick-drive solution. Btw, I did not paint-on any numbers; the only place I can think of where GN would have painted any, is on the rear of the tender, but I elected to keep it generic with no numbers or stencils.

Cheers!
