Doug's scenarios are great (Smitty's) I haven't tried any Trains and Driver's stuff yet. Still have a lot to go thru before I get more to go thru!

This may seem stupid, but not untill lately I have never ran a standard scenario. I was more into freeroam. So when I purchased Ohio Steel 2 I started running the standard scenarios and had a great time doing so. Right now I am on thr 5th standard scenario on the HSC running passengers to Altoona.

It's not stupid. Some people like running Freeroams and others, like myself, prefer running scenarios with a "plan" . Whatever floats your boat.

Glenn, you're probably going to get an AI crash in that scenario. If you run it as career, you won't, and it will unlock scenario 6 in the standard section as well.

Oh, I see he has a new set of scenarios, too! Oh boy, looks like I'm gonna be busy too. Next he's gonna attack Donner, I'll bet on it.

Re HSC - can somebody that has the route tell me what steam facilities exist.

I was away and wasn't able to get it on release and it is still on my "to do" list, but I really want to run steam, which means water and coal facilities / ash pits etc. All being well, I hope to create a few steam based ones (using Dick Cowans fleet of steamers - not proto I know, but the best we can do at the moment) ranging from night hostler work - spotting locos and fueling etc through consist consolidation to mainline running. That is the plan anyway. I have started to flesh them out in my head, will see how it goes. Dependent on whether the route can accommodate what i want I guess...

Oz, as far as I remember, no steam facilities on HSC at all. You'll have to add them or hope you don't run out of coal and/ or water.

Trains and Drivers Volume 2 – The Horse Shoe Curve in the 1950s and 1960s

The Scenarios:
TaD Volume 2 - 1: Build consist for Bethlehem Steel:
You will be building your consist for the mornings run to Bethlehem Steel. You will be collecting
the smaller segments from around Altoona Yard and placing them on the Test Shed Siding 2 for
the next mornings run.

TaD Volume 2 - 2: Morning run for Bethlehem Steel:
You must add your consist to the back of your engines before heading west to Bethlehem Steel.
Once you get there you must Break down the consist onto 3 different sidings. Then park your
engine on Johnstown Siding 1 to end the scenario.

TaD Volume 2 - 3: Passenger service to Johnstown:
You are taking the morning Passenger run to Johnston. It is a cold winter morning with a bad
snow storm in full bloom. Take it easy and keep the passengers safe and warm. There are no
expected delays, but you know how fast things can change. Good Luck!

TaD Volume 2 - 4: Working Cresson Yard Part 1:
Your job today is to break down the consists and sort them to there perspective sidings. They will
all be sorted by type cargo they carry.

TaD Volume 2 - 5: Working Cresson Yard Part 2:
You finish up the yard work in this part by taking the remaining consist to its final destination.
Then park your engines on Johnstown Siding 1.

TaD Volume 2 - 6: Johnstown Switching Part 1:
You wil be swapping out the full cars with the empty ones and making a consist to be taken to
Altoona In the next segment.

TaD Volume 2 - 7: Johnstown Switching Part 2:
Your task today is to take the consist you built earlier to Altoona. Should be a nice uneventful trip
through the curve.

TaD Volume 2 - 8: Picardi Gravel Yard:
OK! Today you will be on your own. You will be taking all the gravel cars on Picardi Gravel 2
and 3, plus the Boxcars on 4. Once you have them you will drop them off on C Storage 2. Then
return to Woodvale Yard 17 where the journey will end. Good Luck Driver.

"TaD Vol 5 - Horseshoe Curve v2"

Approximate level of difficulty is Hard.
Approximate time to complete is around 560 minutes. (9.3 hours)

Scenario Briefing:
Scenario 1: Round trip to Cresson and back:
You take a loaded consist to Altoona Loop in Cresson. You drop of your consist and then you pick
up the consist of empties on the adjacent siding.. You then bring it back and drop all the cars on
Slope Yard 5. Once you have completed this task you must park your engines on Slope Turntable
Road.

Scenario 2: Work on the Slope:
You climb into the GP7 and proceed to break down the consist of empties that you dropped off
earlier. You must bring the differrent cars to thier proper sidings for storage. These Sidings are
the factories across the rails from Altoona Station. Then park your switcher on the Switcher
siding in the same area.

Scenario 3: Passengers West:
You will be making the afternoon run to Johnstown, With stops at Gallitzin Station, and Cresson
Station along the way.
Scenario 4: The Great Pennsy:
Your shift begins today on 06:00 AM and you are assigned to the Gp7 No. 3433.You will have to
perfom some shunting jobs and a local freight run on the southern end of the route.

Scenario 5: From Woodvale To Altoona:
You must add the caboose to the consist you built on Woodvale Yard 7 from this morning and
bring it to Freight Transfer 1 in Altoona.

Scenario 6: Trouble in Cresson:
A Freight train has broken down in Cresson. There are 3 engines, but they can not be certain
which one is giving them the most trouble so you must take 3 replacement engines, go to Cresson
Yard. There you will park the train and switch out the bad engines for the good ones. After you
have them switched out you will bring the 3 bad engines back to the repair track in Altoona.
Trains and Drivers Volume 5 – Horseshoe Curve Volume 2

Scenario 7: Delayed Shipment
You will need to take this shipment to 2 different destinations. Part of it is going to South Fork
Yard, and the second drop is in Woodvale Yard. You will end your shift once you park your
enginge there.

Scenario 8: Midnight Run:
Good evening! You are in control of the 'Broadway Limited' to New York. The weather isn´t the
best tonight, an upcoming snow storm may hit you in the next hour. So, prepare for your run to
Altoona and let the passengers board now.

Thanks much for those scenario descriptions, Samwolf! I'll read them carefully and decide whether to buy. After a first, cursory reading, I wish I could pick and choose to invent my own "pack". Apparently, none of the pay-ware scenario producers has thought of this approach: determine a per-scenario price and let customers buy only what suits their tastes. I, for example, would avoid all passenger runs and there-and-back freight runs in favor of scenarios that involve switching (the more complicated, the better).

It's like $5 for 8 scenarios (less if you get the double pack on sale)! You really want people to offer scenarios for like $1 each? These are good scenarios for a great track at a good price. Don't run the ones you don't like.

Agree with you, Tom, but then again, my appreciation to these guys that write all these different scenarios? I sure can't do it, and if there's one or two in a pack that don't suit my tastes, well heck. That's OK. These guys don't charge all that much, really, for all the "fun" they create. Just my (yeah, it's up to $0.04 now with inflation)
