AI Collision at Potals?

Unread postby MattW » Wed Jul 27, 2011 8:32 pm

Hello all, I'm working on a passenger scenario for the default Castle Rock route using mostly default rolling stock. However, I've run into a bit of a snag with my AI trains. The long story short is I have a long freight train starting from inside the MP 20 Portal in between Larkspur and Castle Rock and exiting at the Castle Rock portal (just past the Intermodal yard). I used the playback feature in the scenario editor, and the train in question moves right along, then terminates and disappears at the portal. However, when I played the scenario, about the time it was supposed to disappear, I received an end of scenario due to collision notification which named the train in question.
Has anyone else seen this behavior before? The next step I'm going to try is to make the train stop at the destination marker short of the portal, see if that makes a difference.
Thanks for any help in solving this,
Matt

Since the first appearance of RS, RailSim has made it clear that portals are not intended to be used as entry points for trains. My guess is that this is still true. Numerous scenario writers (myself included) have, nevertheless, experimented with this possibility. As far as I know, no one has really succeeded. Good luck and keep us posted, please.

Wrong.
Most of the scenarios bundled with this have AI trains starting from portals, without any problems.

Thanks for this information. I'm really not prepared to spend $18.25 to watch this happen (and peek inside the scenarios to see how they were programmed), but it's good to know that someone has succeeded. My experiments with starting AI from portals took place mostly with the RS version of the PO&N route. I finally gave up because of inconsistent behavior and haven't really tried in any version of RW ... maybe it's time to experiment again?

Is it really necessary to be so rude all the time? Manners cost nothing. More to the point, your answer is not really relevant to the OP's problem.

The location of the problem of the OP was (as I read it) at the location of the receiving portal not the starting portal.
