The January 2020 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman has an interesting article on servicing steam locomotives. "An Operating Engine Terminal" goes into great depth on the features of a steam servicing area, but it also gives a timeline that simulates the procedures used by the locomotive service crews. It can be a good resource for those who create steam-era scenarios.

Thanks for the heads up. I unfortunately struggle to make a sandwich, but some service assets would be great for ingame - wash bays with piping, ash pits and disposal etc.
