Possible to make persistent save states for linked scenarios?

Unread postby ssbobz » Thu Dec 08, 2016 12:52 pm

What I mean is being able to set up a scenario, run it, and when finished save the location of all the assets so you can start a new scenario without having to actually recreate it by hand. Sort of like a digital model railroad where you can pick up where you left off in the last session.

I'm assuming it's not but perhaps it could be put on a wish list for TSW.

WHat I used to do was make copies of the scenario, then rename them. Once you have it populated and your driver setup for part 1, in part 2 you just have to delete the engineer and program another and move the train to it's new starting postion. And you will have to do this for AI. It keeps all the static rolling stock in place.

I was thinking on the way home ... that won't save the ending positions of anything the player moves in part one though will it?

For example, the player collects cars from industries into a block at the yard in part one. That block would have to be placed by hand at the beginning of part two but anything that didn't move would still be in the same position it was in part one right?

Correct.
I think you can also make all of this easier by saving the consists you need for the second scenario.

This has one disadvantage. You should replace the scenario marker to the new start location to avoid a long waiting period while you see the assets slowly increase in detail. The reason for this is that the scenario marker tells the game engine which part of the landscape must be built first.

[Added emphasis mine.]

So that's why! I've long wondered about that when running scenarios made by folks who like to put all the markers for a series of scenarios in the same place. *!!thnx!!*

I had no idea either. It does make sense though.
For the benefit of future readers: a while ago I published a tutorial on "How to change the scenario start location".

I've always wanted to do this. I know there is a "play" button in the bottom left hand corner of the scenario editor that plays through a scenario for you. It's possible to see what ends up where using that.

Yes but NEVER use it with your working copy of a scenario.
It mangles the scenario file.
Use it on a clone that you can delete afterwards.

The scenario editor includes copy and paste functions. Would it be possible to copy the new scenario marker, move to the intended starting point of the new scenario, paste the marker there, and, finally, return to the marker's original position and delete it?

I never had much success with the copy/paste functions in the scenario editor.
It certainly didn't work with scenario markers when I tried.
Maybe this was fixed later, it's worth a try.
