Swapping engines?

Does anyone know how and why if you try to use a locomotive used in a different route, when you edit or make a scenario in another route, those locomotives don't show up. Example: Trying to use the P42's from Marias Pass and put them into a scenario for Miami to West Palm beach.

Thanks!

To be honest I don't understand, Evey locomotive should work on any route. Are you talking about swapping them in RW tools?

The P42's from Marias Pass do not show up in the scenario editor for the Miami - West Palm Beach route. I simply want to use those P42's instead of the ones that come with the Miami route.

Are you using RW tools or the scenario edit in TS 2015?

Scenario editor in TS2015.

Have you extracted the .AP file from Marias Pass so you can see the assets folders opened? ( Use Railworks Tools)

I don't think he needs to extract .ap files unless he's using RW-Tools.

Chacal is right, a person doesn't need to extract the .ap files for this.
You need to click on the small blue cube and select the assets you want to use.
Swapping engines in a pre existing scenario is more problematic without RW_Tools.

Some scenarios use a .ap asset and route folder.
A person using RW_Tools will have to extract ONLY the ScenarioProperties.xml so RW_Tools can see and change stock.
Same with the RouteProperties.xml

The rest of the .ap files can stay in place, unless someone is going to modify them.

Yes, I thought about that after I posted it. I use mostly RW tools now so I forgot how it works when using the editor in TS 2015.

Each route has it's own set of assets. The route knows which files it can use. When you try to use the stuff in another route, the new route does not know where they are. How could it? When you are in the scenario editor, in the middle left pop up is a small blue box with an orange arrow in it. This is the object browser. When you click it another window opens on the right side. It has a listing of all the assets on your system. Find what you are looking for and click in the little boxes next to the name of the item. Then you will be able to use the P40 or whatever in that scenario only. If you make another scenario and want to use the same engine from another route you will have to turn it on again.

What you are turning on is also called the Provider & Product.

Actually, engines can be swapped without resorting to editing files.

1) In the TS Scenario Editor, navigate to the location of the engine you want to replace and locate the viewing camera so that you can see both the engine and its driver disk.

2) Place the engine you want to use instead as close to the engine you want to get rid of as possible, either on an adjacent track or directly in front of or behind that engine.

3) Move your mouse pointer over the driver disk until it is selected (the driver disk will change color or luminosity).

4) Press and hold the left mouse button (do not click: press and hold).

5) Slowly and gently move the driver disk (all the other disks will move with it) until it is in position over the front end of the new engine. Release the mouse button.

6) Click on the old engine (now without any disks) to select it and press the Delete key or simply drag the engine to an area without track.

7) Click and hold on the new engine and move it into the old engine's position.

8) If the old engine was part of a train, be sure that the new one is coupled to that train.

This process can be a bit tricky and certainly requires a steady hand when moving the disks, especially if there are a lot of them, but it does work. If you make a mistake and the disks disappear, simply back out of the editor without saving and try again. Remember that if you are swapping a steam engine with a diesel or electric one you will have to either add or delete a tender. It's also a good idea to check the new engine's number and name in your scenario after swapping.

Also, if you want to move the entire train or multiple cars, when you click on the car you want to move hold the shift key at the same time as you left click the mouse, then all the cars will move as one. otherwise you will only move the car you are clicking on.

I don't recall where or how I learned that, but I think it started with TS2015.
