Exiting the editors.

Having spent many happy years in the MSTS Activity and Route Editors, a few days after buying TS2014, I hit the “Build” button just to have a look around. I did not make any changes, nor did I create anything. I just looked in there.

When I went to exit I could find no way to do so. No quit, escape, exit, etc. I did hit the big orange play button lower right, but nothing happened. Actually, the sim had frozen and so had my desktop. The only thing still working was the Win8.1 Start button on the keyboard. From there I was able to get to Task Manager, ending TS14 in there. Steam then had to replace nearly 300 lost files when I did a Verify Cache. All is working well again now.

Since then, I’ve done a ton of reading on Scenario Creation and using the editors in general, but I have yet to come across a description of the proper way to exit the editors. All that is ever said is “Exit” or “Save and Exit,” etc. Which adds to my embarrassment, since the answer must be so obvious and basic that no person of normal intelligence would ever ask the question. *!greengrin!*

Is it that you have to actually make a change, create a scenario, add DLC to a route, or do something and then hit the play arrow, and then you can exit from the running scenario etc. as usual?

Sorry for this newbie question. Just trying to avoid another total freeze-up. This time when I go into Build I intend to finally DO something. Thanks in advance for helping a TS14 rookie.

Welcome to the Railworks Editors. The play button is the only way to get out of either editor. If you crash for some reason then you use CNTRL ALT DEL, 3 finger salute and shut it downwith the task manager like you did. If you crash something is out of whack somewhere, either with the route or the scenario or some assets. There is a program called Logmate that you canturn on and it records all the actions the program is doing in the back ground while loading and such, that helps to pinpoint where the problem is.

Well Actually If you want to get out of the editor with out saving changes, (like you changed a gradient or anything for that matter) All you have to do is hit the alt key and tab, that will minimize the game to the desktop, then on the taskbar, Right click on ts2014 and choose close railworks. then left click on the same spot on the taskbar and the game will come back up and you will be prompted with the option to save or not, just choose no and wolla editor closed without saving

I run in Windowed Mode when editing. When things go south, I can easily bug out.

That's a handy tip! Hope I can remember it when I need it.

Y'know, I did briefly think of trying Alt/Tab or Control/Alt/Delete, but previous experience with trying to get out of an MSTS crash dissuaded me. There were many times when I needed TNT and a bulldozer to get out of a freeze-up with the M$ sim.

I'll indeed run the editors in Windowed mode at first and keep the above tips in mind.

Many thanks for the help gentlemen - and for re-assuring me I didn't miss something obvious. Also, it's nice to see some familiar "faces" here, after so many years on t-s.com.
