Auto carriers?

Discussion about RailWorks scenario creation.

Auto carriers?

Unread postby OldProf » Tue Mar 18, 2014 2:01 pm

Once again, I am attempting to boldly shunt where no such activity was anticipated; this time, I've decided to enter into freight contracting on the London-Faversham High Speed route. After considerable location scouting, I decided to work at Dagenham, where I found a number of sidings related to the Ford Motor Company and a nearby docks area. The fact that the dock zone is absolutely devoid of any trace of water and traveling between these two areas is, to say the least, difficult has not yet dissuaded me, but something else has got me scratching my noggin.

Is anyone still with me? Good. Well, a number of sidings at the Ford plant are marked for "car loading". Since the Brits refer to railway freight carriers as wagons, I'm guessing that this means loading automobiles onto freight wagons. Some time ago, I bought a freight package from Just Trains that includes "IPA Car Carriers", but since I'd like to upload this scenario to Steam Workshop where non-RSC products aren't allowed, I'm wondering whether any "official" wagons suitable for hauling autos are available amongst DLC packages.

I searched what UK "stuff" I have, Tom, and didn't come up with anything. So I asked over at the Steam / Railworks Users Forum: (more of a UK based membership over there)

"I don't think there are any 'official' car carriers unfortunately, bit of a shame since it sounded an interesting idea for a few workshop scenarios. " (reply from "allyourkitty")

"I don't think there are any that would be Workshop eligible sadly. There are some flatbed wagons with a load of tractors amongst the legacy Kuju/EU assets. They're German wagons and built to a larger loading gauge than most of the UK rail network, but they would fit on the HS1 route. " (reply from "FoggyMorning")

Someone else posted a link to some freeware German stock, but that's not going to work in the Workshop. I'll add any more replies that may come in. Here's the Topic I posted: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... ?t=3230802

Thanks, Chris. I think I already have those German auto carriers and some French ones as well, which I bought (or downloaded as freeware, but I don;t think so) in connection with some Italian routes. For now, I'm working on a scenario using the Just Trains auto carriers that I can always upload here. I wish I had some idea how many RWA users buy from Just Trains. They make some very good products and they're generally cheaper than RSC DLC.

That area around Dagenham is both interesting and strange -- an example of sloppy route creation, in my opinion. Nevertheless, I'm pushing ahead and appreciate your help.
