Rolling stock choice for scenarios?

What is preferred?

- Use only rolling stock which comes with route package?
or
- Use quite big array of rolling stock, like 7-8 additional DLC items.

I heard such opinion that using too much DLC items scares off some potential users: they need to buy additional stuff to run the scenario.

It's easier if you just stick with the stuff from the route. Then one doesn't have to hunt all over the place for assets. If people want to substitute their other things they can always swap the stuff out for rolling stock of their liking. **!!2cents!!**

Yep, it sure does. Besides, a scenario is for a certain route anyways. So adding in things from different routes makes no sense **!!2cents!!**

It all depends. If you want to make freight scenarios for the NEC or Surfliner you'll need assets from elsewhere since those routes only come with passenger equipment.

Yes but the freight you use should be mainly default Railworks freight so still there are less assets to find **!!2cents!!**

RW no longer contains "default" items. It now depends on whatever bundle purchased from Steam.

Yes but this is constantly changing, it depends on when you bought it and whether it was in a bundle.
When I purchased RW, it came with Cajon Pass and the "default" stock of F7 , ES44 and SD40-2. Now it no longer does.

I purchased Train Simulator bundle on Steam with Cajon, NEC and HSC. Is it considered standard? I think not.
So, should I rely on assumption that everybody has Amfleet cars (which are part of NEC bundle) ?

There is also problem with TOFC trailers. They are important part of intermodal traffic for any US freight route, but not included into some route packages.
So, I need to keep dependency on Marias (for example), to use TOFC.

TOFC was also bundled in the SD75 pack.

I like to write scenarios for the steam/early diesel era. Therefore, I have acquired rollingstock from numerous vendors (most of it free). Later, when I become more proficient, I would like to post a scenario or two. It is customary to publish a list of rollingstock and credits that did not come with the route. I have a lot of rollingstock, and can't remember where all of it came from. Is there a way to find out where I got it so I can publish the list?

If all else fails post a picture. I'll bet someone can identify. If you are using them they have to be somewhere in your assets. If you think you found it go into the folder and make the texture folder a texture.xxx folder. the scene where the car is and then hit the play again. If you have the right one it'll show in your scene with the textures of that piece of rolling stock missing.
