Marshalling / Add to

Unread postby PolyesterMafia » Sat Jan 25, 2014 12:28 pm

I want to move a cut of ten cars from track A to track B. When using the Marshall instruction, do I have to specify each freight car number in the cut, or is it good enough to simply specify the number of the car the locomotive with be directly coupled to?

I recommend reading this tutorial first - using group names for the cuts will make it a lot easier.

Although it is informative, it does not really answer my question. I could apply the Group Name to the first car in the cut, although I am actually picking up all the cars. I guess what I am trying to do is save myself time. Not to give to much away, but in the scenario there are a lot more than ten cars, and I don't want to have to list every one of them if I can simply instruct the player to couple to the first car and move it and the entire consist with it to another location. The concern is whether doing it this way would cause the scenario to be incomplete in the end.

I thought the intention of the tutorial was to show how to avoid needing to list all the numbers of the cars, instead using a name like "first cut" or whatever to refer to the group of cars. Maybe I misread it (I didn't write it either).

Forgive me if I'm too simplistic here... are you adding the cars to the instructions one at a time? Hold shift and click on the consist to add them all at once; that's quick. AFAIK, all of the cars need to be identified in the instruction for the game to track success/failure ; the group name is just a label that only affects the task display.

Ahhh, I knew there had to be a simpler way to pick all those cars. It still seems a bit overkill. Someday you will see what I mean! :)

Time to go experiment!
