Wasn't sure where to ask this, so I'll ask it here. Is it possible for trains to come out of portals as a quick way to turn around? or is it even possible? Thnaks

This is a scenario question will move it when done posting my reply.

Old Prof tried to do this with portals, see this post. The post is titled try 2 so there may be an other older post with more info in it. Look in the scenario forum.

Bob, you are not only the owner-operator but also the elephant-in-chief of this forum!

Did I really have the determination to do all of that experimenting? Or did someone borrow my identity? I'm still experimenting with portals from time to time because of my conviction that if a player opens the 2D map and zooms out or away from his train's current position, AI trains waiting for their cue to enter should not be visible unless there is a logical explanation for their presence: picking up passengers, for example.

I'll just add a plug for another of my favorite bug-a-boos: trains, AI or player, named "Service1", etc. How much trouble is it to look at the engine number and enter it as the train's name? After all, do we name our babies "Kid 1", etc. (Actually, in Italy I have met fellows named "Primo", "Secondo", and so on!)

!!jabber!!

I'd never watched "Tutorial 15" before. It's pretty thorough, but lacks some crucial information, such as how to load multiple AI trains into a single portal. It also contains some rather risky suggestions as it glosses over the overall process of combining player and AI trains. If I remember correctly, I addressed both of these issues in the RWA post referenced above.

Just recently, after setting up Player and AI traffic in a new scenario I'm writing, I tried hiding some of the AI traffic in portals. That worked successfully for some trains, but others prevented the scenario from running at all. The editor allowed me to save the scenario without giving any warning of this, but the scenario then failed to load for play. Conclusion? We have a very fickle simulator. No news, there, actually.

I can work in the route editor for days with only an occasional crash (sometimes my own fault)... the scenario editor crashes on me an average of about every 15 minutes.

AI trains starting in a portal are not reliable. Sometimes they start and sometimes they do not. I believe that RSC has stated that portals are not to start AI trains but to remove tham from play (reducing the overhead on the game). AllAboard has used this and I have had many failures of AI not starting. Multiple AI in a portal is even worse. Also have found that AI may not start when the next signal ahead is yellow or even red/green.
