Freight Train Consist Creator
Concept by Harry Adkins
January 2025

One of my shortcomings is creating a random consist for TSC on-the-fly. By nature, I'm a planner and I need to work on projects longer than most to make them successful.

Over the years, I've observed that most manifest freight consists are made up of smaller groups or blocks of cars. For example, there may be four boxcars followed by three tank cars followed by two covered hoppers, etc.

I decided to create a simple make-up sheet to help me with this process of creation. The instructions are simple:
1. Throw a dice to select what kind of cars are in this block.
2. Throw a dice to select how many cars are in this block.
3. Use the Total Number of cars to keep a running subtotal of cars.

You can fill all the rows or as many as you need. Once you create your consist, save it so you can use it again. Take the total number of cars and decide how many locomotives you need to get from point A to point B. It's simple to use.

Hope you enjoy!
Harry

Thank you, Harry. Finally a good use for dice other than board games.

Use this with the "roll-the-dice" consist editor.

You can create a searchable spread sheet to locate in what asset folder they are located.
