I guess what I am trying to do is save myself time. Not to give to much away, but in the scenario there are a lot more than ten cars, and I don't want to have to list every one of them if I can simply instruct the player to couple to the first car and move it and the entire consist with it to another location. The concern is whether doing it this way would cause the scenario to be incomplete in the end.

Forgive me if I'm too simplistic here... are you adding the cars to the instructions one at a time? Hold shift and click on the consist to add them all at once; that's quick. AFAIK, all of the cars need to be identified in the instruction for the game to track success/failure ; the group name is just a label that only affects the task display.
