Q's from a rookie

Unread postby brucesim2003 » Sat Aug 03, 2019 9:58 am

Hi guys,

1st post here, so apologies if this is the wrong place.

First Q: So I have a few addon's from the same place, and they are great. But the naming conventions they have used are very similar from one addon to the next, which makes identifying them in various menus......awkward. How do I go about changing JUST the display name in the QD consist creator and the scenario editor? I've tried changing the 'name' line in the bin (w/RW tools), and also in the xml (though not both at once), and it has made no difference.

Second Q: Is there any steam loco repaints for the Bessemer railway that I can add to the B&LE route. Just to throw a spanner in the works, I'm not in the USA, so certain DLC's are out of reach.

Third Q: Blackjack did a New Haven repaint of VR's RS-11 (Lehigh). I have the PRR (steam) version. Is there any way to convert the repaint, or do I have to get the Lehigh version for it to work? It would be the bee's knees on the VNHRR.

Cheers

There is a BLE version of Mike Rennie's wonderful consolidation if you are looking for steam

There are other bits and pieces around, but the B&LE is pretty much a contained eco-system :D There are also the NYC Hudsons for AI traffic where the systems overlap

!*cheers*!

They did use other loco's I assume?

You had the right idea but the wrong location. There are two places where you can rename consists to suit your needs.

For those made in the built-in consist maker, you need to edit the ConsistTemplates.bin which is located in the Content folder.

For all others you need to find the appropriate PreLoad folder and edit the (consist name).bin

Both locations will have a line for the locomotive you want the consist to be listed under and a line for the consist name itself. It is a tedious but rewarding task as it will clean up your menu. Let me know if you need further details. I can take some screenshots.

It's not the consists I want to rename, it's the Loco's/tenders & wagons. Sorry, I was unclear of that.

Cheers

I misread it, sorry. Here's a picture that may help. Its for the DTG GP40 but most bin files are the same.

Almost forgot... In this loco, there are 3 bin files, C&D, Running, and Running_ND. Obviously all must be changed appropriately.
Many will have a ND version.

You little beauty! That's exactly what I needed. Turn's out you were right....right idea, wrong location. I was changing the line you have marked 'do not change'.

Now I have some names to change.

Good luck. It is tedious beyond belief but satisfying when you finish. Here's pictures of my test :)

I know how to convert it. I'm doing a couple others (CP) now so I'll add it to the list.

I usually substitute it in for the GP9 on VNHRR scenarios. Much more entertaining to drive!

Then don't be. On here it's considered bad form to ask when free stuff is going to be done. After all we rarely know when the stuff we pay for is going to be done. *!greengrin!* *&!welcome!&*
