No more updates to RW_Tools

Unread postby mikesimpson » Wed Jul 17, 2019 6:03 pm

I recently gave my 2nd PC to a friend who could not afford a new one. During the handover the hard-drives were all re-formatted. Now my main PC has had a HDD crash and I have had to reinstall everything. It turns out some of the back-ups I needed were on the PC I have given away :-(

Due to RW_Tools being dependant on the 3rd party grid control which appears on most screens to list data etc, and that 3rd party now being out of business. I have no way to reinstall Visual Basic 6 with all its add-ons to the state it was originally, so I have no way of editing the existing program any further. The program v8.1.16 on my site, is pretty much bug proofed, so it should work fine on all your machines, but there will be no more bug fixes or changes available. My web site is paid up until around year end, after that it will probably close as it is quite expensive to maintain.

Sorry about this, but as I will be 80 next year, I need a rest anyway :-)

RW_Tools has been a godsend for Train Simulator. Sorry to hear about this. I, for one, am great full to have a copy and I wanted to take the time to thank you so much for it.

Thanks Mike, your tool is a necessity IMO for anyone looking to tweak TS. Can I get a link to your current website? Thanks!

No need to excuse yourself. Your program and its service has been invaluable to the whole world of Train Simulator.

Hi Mike, A Big Thank You from someone who's been using your utilities since Route_Riter Version 1.0. Without your utilities (Route_Riter and RW_Tools) the routes and activities I created for MSTS and Rail Works would not have been possible. Even though I'm not as active in the rail simulator community as I once was, I'm still in awe of how you were able to create utility programs to check routes, rolling stock and consists for errors and fix errors found. Thank you for all the many hours of hard work, without your programs the rail sim communities may not be what they are today. If there was a rail sim hall of fame, your name should be at the top of the list. Something for your consideration, would you be interested in uploading the final version of RW_Tools to the RWA file library, so folks would still have access to your program after the lights go out on your web site?

Like others Mike, I just want to express my thanks and sincere gratitude for all the work and support you have given to RW_Tools. There are so many aspects to this simulator that were opened up thanks to your program. I can't even imagine doing a repaint without RW_Tools... or editing scenarios... or creating scenarios... or unpacking .ap files... and so on.

But I'm going to go out even further here. I believe DTG owes you a debt of gratitude for RW_Tools. I truly believe that your tool set spurred 3rd party developers, repainters, and scenario creators to keep developing content for the sim... which kept the sim alive during it's darker early days. Without RW_Tools, I believe TS wouldn't have the loyal following it has today, and more than likely would have ceased production years ago. If anyone from DTG is reading this, please reach out to Mike and say thank you.
