Auto Pilot

Hi

I find the Auto Pilot function in Open Rails extremely functional and useful and if it was available in TS2019
I would buy a lot more addons.

With OR I can download an Activity/Scenario and watch it run to get an idea of how the Route is set up/configured
and I get a good idea of how the Route works.

If anyone here has any influence with DTG, please have a go at getting Auto Pilot
for TS2019 and future releases.

Cheers

Daniel

Can do something like that that already in the scenario editor, I believe.

I personally don't believe that DTG have any interest in adding new features to this game. Pretty much all we get is a new background image on the home screen each year.

But it wouldn't hurt to suggest this directly to DTG, as there's only about a 1 in a million chance of it being implemented as a result of being posted here.

Why would anyone want a autopilot on a train when no such thing exists in the real world?

Trip Optimizer exists. But why would anyone want something that runs the train for you in a game all about you actively running the train?

Always with the kibbitzers ...! Try opening the scenario in the editor, and there's an option there to watch it play out.

You've gotta be kidding me, where in the real word do trains run, carrying real passengers
and switching real wagons on a screen?

Guess what this is not Real World, this is a SIMULATOR, and the suppliers give you
what you need/want.

Hence Open Rails and hopefully TS, I tried to explain why in my opening post.

Cheers

You need to try TSW then. Walk around, hop on a passenger train and just take it all in. Look for a time a freight train is leaving a yard and take control or just hop in the conductors seat and take a ride. There are regular scenarios too. I think that is what you are looking for.

The game is already boring enough running 100+ miles of mountain grade up and down without any proper multiplayer or actual dispatcher. If an autopilot were to do the few bits left for me on such a particular run, I'm pretty sure I'd die of boredom !*roll-laugh*!

Just my own **!!2cents!!**

I would certainly welcome a mode where you can simply ride the train as a passenger looking out at the scenery or, on a traditional UK loco hauled service, leaning out the carriage door droplight (mind your head!) while the AI drives. It would also have its use when testing a route. However as others have said, how much more work are DTG likely to put into their TS, particularly as this feature could not be quite so well implemented in TSW where you are free to walk on or off the train, walk through the train etc. In some ways they would be undermining one of the appeals of their new product.

But overall, it is a good idea - ISTR even MSTS had a means of setting up an activity where you could ride along, Trainz thrives on being able to hitch a ride on an AI controlled train and so does Run 8. So, erm, why not?

I have used the autopilot function in MSTS to determine the shortest possible arrival times between each stations. I load up OR (Open Rails), press the autopilot hotkeys, and check the results when the activity is completed. It automatically loads the statistics at the end of the activity anyhow, which is not a bad thing.

There are various opinions here about it (for TS, hypothetically), and I personally think it would be a welcome feature, but I think that the only change to the program that will be implemented in the next 12 months will be a change of title to TS2020 and a new background image on the home screen. If you don't want to use it, nobody is forcing you to!

I personally find MSTS less mundane and dull to play.

Hi

In the end if DTG don't want to it won't happen, I think it would be a big selling point.

Not much of TS is real except the scenery and stock, riding a train to view the action
would be real.
