Older assets not showing in TS2019

Unread postby Hurst » Sun Oct 21, 2018 2:59 am

I had not updated my steam copy of TS2015 because of stories I read where older assets simply did not work. So I had been working with 2015 for a while now.

I am currently working on my Kansas City to St Louis route,.. the complexity, attention to detail,.. the level of detail and scenery I have been throwing at this route had been causing memory problems due to 32bit limitations. I updated to 2019 for the 64bit version to see if it helped,.. and well,.. it does,.. I can move around freely and what assets do show load much faster when moving from zone to zone. But certain assets simply do not show at all.

I'm wondering if perhaps its the way I installed them. I started collecting as far back as rail Simulator 2010. It got to the point where when I built a new computer,.. there were so many assets I would just copy/paste from old HDD to new steam install,.. copy the contents of the assets and content folder and everything was happy. Fortunately I still have TS2015 on my laptop and it is will working fine,.. except for the crashes when editing from time to time. My frustration is,.. what good is having 32gb memory and GTX1080 graphics when your limited to 32bit?

Do I need to locate the actual installs for everything to work in 2019? Or is certain content simply not working? Some of the things missing are not that old,.. I would say circa TS2015/2016 but still 3rd party assets. Bridges,.. buildings,.. loft objects. This is really frustrating.

What would you guys suggest I do? Or am I going to be stuck with TS2015? And if I am stuck with TS2015,.. then that means this route will be for just me,.. and no point in trying to share something that wont work or would be too complicated for others to get working with TS2019.

Thanks

It may be your scenery density slider is reduced. To check it, from the main menu click on settings, advanced, and pull the Scenery Density and Scenery Quality to max.

Ah, that good old friend the density problem. Hurst, you might want go to where you know the asset is and try mouseing around 'til the asset highlights then double left click it, then look for the Detail Level and set it at least to 5 or 6. If it doesn't highlight then I would say its not rendering properly. Try what wacampbell suggested and then try this before you panic...……. **!!bang!!**

I didnt think to check that slider. I actually had that happen when I updated to 2015.

I'll check right now,.. see if thats the culprit.

Yes,.. the scenery density was set too low. That helped,.. but,.. did not fix everything. I still have little milk bottles everywhere from things that were there and no longer are. And I can not find them in my asset list to add them back either.

Manually reinstalling everything will be a monumental task. And not even sure that will fix this. Sigh,...

Have you already checked your route with RWtools? That should list all missing assets.

I havent used RWTools in a while,.. but it wasnt that hard to figure out.

Question,..

Lets say RWTools lists missing assets. Yet the missing assets are in the assets folder,.. then what? Does TS2019 have copy protection that needs the assets installed through the installer in the utilities.exe or does that not really matter?

What do the milk bottles represent? Is there an ini or other cache file that I need to carry over or backup? Trying to cover my bases and avoid manual installation if I can.

Sounds like a path problem to me. Using RWTools you need to make the path is the same as the one your route is using. Milk bottles means the route can't find the asset. The route xml lists all the assets used.

Thank you. I will see what I can figure out or edit to make sure the paths are set correctly.

In RWTools,.. where is the XML editor to change the paths? Or is that not the right thing to use?

I had a problem a while back with the Port Ogden creating problems for some and I had to edit out the properties in the XML file. I forgot where and how to do that.

Thanks.

Open RWTools click on files then 2018 files. Go find the file and make the changes. The nice thing about RWTools is when you do a save it automatically makes a backup in case you booger something.

EDIT:

Wait I found it,..

Open XML file.

I opened "RouteProperties.xml" in the Contents folder /my route. Is that the file I need to look in? I read thought it,.. No where does it list any paths for anything. I looked on my laptop for my route in TS2015 and it is the same,.. no paths listed.

Sorry,.. but I think I need my hand held on this one. Thank you for your time.

Hurst...
I just fired up your Route that I had from our testing way back in my 64bit TS 2019 and it ran okay. No doubt you have added and built much more since then and your Route is way more larger and has more assets. I cannot see any milk bottles on my version and I had a fair good look around. ( So if you had the older assets in my version then they are working )
Milk bottles are missing assets or paths to those assets so until you run a full check with RW_Tools to verify such you will be chasing your tail forever.
I ran RW_Tools and only some decals ( not important ) and those Atomicdanny vehicles are the only Assets that I have missing.
All my sliders are maxed out and now I can run a particular section now with 64 bit where I couldn't before with the 32 bit system... !*don-know!* ...somethings working!!!
