As to Tehachapi Pass and Amtrak #11. Ran fine so far for me. In 64 bit and as far as Bealsville.

Like many (I suppose), I was frustrated by the fact the TS2019 Desktop shortcut and the Library link default to the 32-bit version. I don't let Steam run in the background, so some of the other methods listed to start in 64-bit mode, don't work for me. If you look in the ..\Railworks\ folder, you'll see Railworks.exe (370kb) and Railworks64.exe (372kb). I swapped the names between the two files. (You may want to backup the files before renaming them.) Now the Desktop shortcut and the Library link both default to the 64-bit version. If you want the 32-bit version, click the Play button in the library and select 64-bit. I'm sure this method is not for everyone, but it works for me. I imagine that as TS2019 is updated, or if you 'verify the integrity of the game files', the two files will revert back to the original names.

I think some people are getting a little carried away as to what this update can and can't do (and not people on this thread specifically, but across the platforms).

This update is more of a "behind the scenes" type thing. This update was needed because it allows the game to stay current going into the future and reducing bottlenecks of data from 64 bit DLC running with a 32 bit simulator core.

This is by no means some magical thing that will turn the game into the miracle that everyone wants.

Yes, in theory some people may experience slightly better performance because of the 64 bit processing capability, but in order to play this sim, you generally need a pretty high specification PC to begin with, which for most people, have been able to run the game with a fair (not exceptional, but fair) frame rate for several years now. so the difference is negligible for those with higher end machines.

As stated, this update has more to do with the survivability of the game in coming years, not a magical improvement. !!jabber!!

I think some people are getting a little carried away with what this update is meant for. *!rolleyes!*

What do some think it's going to do? I think it's a great all around improvement.

When Prepar3D made the leap from 32 bit to 64 bit with v4, some people really thought it would revolutionize FPS performance despite many other people telling them it would not. Those people were disappointed. Fact is, that’s not what going to 64 bit does.

What it did (and continues to do) in P3D is eliminate crashes from running out of memory and by relation, gives third party developers the opportunity to innovate more and add new features that would have previously been impossible due to 32 bit memory limitations. The third party community has responded in full force to this new freedom.

I expect we’ll see something similar from the train sim addon community going forward, as developers will be able to build more detailed models, routes, scenarios etc without worrying that nobody will be able to run them without crashing.

This is a great move by DTG and I’m excited for what the future will bring.

No, Tom, but, thanks for the thought, I tried all those permetations when I was in the game, and it certainly doesn't do anything in the splash screen. I was wondering what the ms stood for, I thought it was something to do with response time, and it might give me a clue as to where to look, but, this only happens on the 64-bit version, the 32 bit doesn't get this, fortunately, but, I'm completely flummoxed on this issue now, any bright ideas you chaps?

That looks like an FPS counter from something non-railworks related. Do you have any other tools installed that provide FPS counters?

It might be the NVidia frame rate display. Have a look at the Nvidia Control Panel and click on 3D Settings at the top. See if there's an option to turn on/off a visual display of the frame rate.

"ms" means milliseconds. The number is the time interval between frames (the inverse of the frame rate).

Why do you think it's non-railworks related? It only started yesterday after tweaking with various things in the game and in my folders, I have completely removed my shaders folder from the game and put it onto a storage HDD until such time that you have upgraded your mod, so, as it isn't in situ any more I didn't think it would have any effect now, and my screenshots are from this afternoon, and I don't remember seeing a frame rate counter in the shaders package which I've had installed with your mod for ages and ages now, I've never seen this fps before in my game, or, on the splashscreen.

Hello Mike, I did tweak my nVidia settings yesterday, but, I reverted everything back as DTG are still twiddling about with this 64-bit version, so, I thought I'd leave things for the time being until such time that it is prudent to change things without any hitches.

This is my current page, nothing set up in the program settings for Railworks/TS19, and this is the global page.

And, as I stated previously, this only happens on the 64-bit version page of TS19, the 32 bit page doesn't get the fps and ms counters displayed.

No, it's switched off, young man, I've never touched it and I've just double checked again, but, thanks a lot for the suggestion.
